Three years ago, our co-founders Huade Tan and Nathan Silvernail asked if they could engineer a way to quickly and reliably draw carbon out of the atmosphere while, at the same time, creating a durable product that millions of customers would find useful. They believed the answer to this question was a resounding yes and Plantd was born. To read about our approach to Direct Air Capture, check out our new blog below. https://lnkd.in/dw-dAuAm #ClimateChange #CarbonRemoval #DirectAirCapture

Can we count on techniques to stop factories and power plants from emitting carbon dioxide? Is blocking some of the sun's energy using sulfate aerosols in the atmosphere a viable climate solution? We take a closer look at two climate fixes that sound like science fiction: solar geoengineering and carbon capture and storage. https://lnkd.in/g-BEV7zr This is important news. Direct Air Capture plants are just one of several working methods for Climate Restoration. See the https://lnkd.in/grQsSUTn for the bigger picture of how we can restore our climate to pre-industrial revolution levels of CO 2 and methane. These are practical scientific, scalable and affordable methods available now.

The first approach capable of proving both “Industrial Process Heat” & “Grid-Scale Electrical Storage” requirements that I’ve come across. Better yet, there’s no need for “unobtainum” OR “just 20 more years of research”. I definitely have my fingers crossed for this one.
“One of the oldest ways to store up energy is in hot rocks,” writes Katie Brigham in Heatmap News. “Now, this ancient form of heating is poised for a breakout year as one of the hottest things in climate tech: thermal batteries.” Read how Antora’s thermal batteries are scaling up to decarbonize industry today: https://bit.ly/3HAUlf7

Systems thinking | project management & consultancy | geological netzero | marine cloud brightening | physics & marine science
Good article about active planetary cooling by Zeke Hausfather. The article discusses the most commonly advocated version of #SolarRadiationManagement: stratospheric aerosol injection, which is indeed relatively affordable but also relatively uncontrolled and unpredictable. Personally I think we should also research more localized and controlled approaches such as #MarineCloudBrightening as proposed by the Cambridge Centre for Climate Repair and #ArcticIceThickening as proposed by the startups Arctic Reflections and Real Ice . Important note: engaging in active cooling without a strong commitment to reducing CO2 emissions would be irresponsible. I think we should deploy cooling only when we have a strong and binding carbon reduction and removal strategy in place. The most viable policy proposal I am aware of is a #CarbonTakebackObligation for the fossil fuel industry.
