Let's face it: doomsday scenarios about artificial intelligence, the workforce, and pretty much any emerging technology certainly do what they were intended to do, which is bring clicks, not meaningful discussion, to blogs. But there are real discussion points when it comes to artificial intelligence and whether it's a threat to your job, whichever industry you happen to work in. Today, we are going to focus on gaming and game development. #openai #generativeai #genAI #GameDev #gamedesign #gamesindustry

GameNGen - Using AI to Power Game Engines GameNGen is a groundbreaking approach that uses AI to simulate game environments in real-time. Instead of relying on traditional game engines, GameNGen uses a neural diffusion model to generate game frames, which was specifically tested on the game DOOM. Key Contributions: - Neural Network-Based Engine: GameNGen replaces the traditional game engine with a neural model that predicts the next frame in real-time, achieving performance comparable to conventional engines. - Training and Simulation: The model was trained using gameplay data collected by an RL-agent, allowing it to accurately simulate the game’s environment and dynamics. - Handling Auto-Regressive Drift: GameNGen introduces noise augmentation during training to mitigate the drift that can occur when generating sequences of frames, ensuring consistent quality over time. GameNGen could revolutionize game development by reducing the need for manual coding and allowing for more dynamic, AI-driven environments. This approach could extend beyond gaming to other interactive simulations, such as virtual reality and training simulations. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gmPxYtgY

Generative AI Gaming!!! Interesting article about developers that figured out how to recreate Doom 2 without a game engine, and using generative AI. A far call from anything meaningful on the business front in the short term, but if you look at tech development since the early 90s, gaming always lead the way for pushing better infrastructure and hardware. This is because of the immediate ROI in selling games. As of 2022, gaming is a $43 billion dollar market in US, $200 billion worldwide. Might be interesting possibility to yet again see gaming pave the way with initial R&D and sunk cost, then have business application ride the coattail when it reaches economy of scale. very interesting reading. As a summary (please visit the link) - LLM couldn't pass the level neither with Naïve, Walkthrough, Planners not with K-Levels prompts. Though human could. How far are we with game testers based on LLM?

🚀 Can GPT-4 Play Doom? A Breakthrough in AI Gaming 🚀 In an exciting development, Adrian de Wynter from the University of York explores the capabilities of GPT-4, a Large Language Model (LLM), in playing the classic 1993 first-person shooter, Doom. Without specific training for gaming, GPT-4 demonstrates the ability to engage in gameplay, manipulating doors, combating foes, and navigating through the game environment with a degree of success. This is achieved through a novel approach where GPT-4 generates textual descriptions of game states from screenshots and proceeds to make decisions based on these descriptions. 🕹️ 👀 Insights from the Experiment: GPT-4's gameplay includes opening doors, engaging enemies, and navigating through levels with basic strategic planning. Advanced prompting strategies, utilizing multiple model calls, enhance GPT-4's gameplay performance. Despite the promising results, GPT-4's gameplay does not yet match the proficiency of models trained through classical reinforcement learning techniques. This pioneering work not only showcases the potential of LLMs in video gaming but also prompts discussions on the ethical implications of AI's evolving role in entertainment and beyond. As the first of its kind to employ LLMs in FPS gaming, and particularly using visual inputs, this research opens new avenues for the development of AI-driven game testing and interactive gameplay. 🎮 What's your take on AI's future in gaming and beyond? AI in Gaming: Latest Developments – projectcubiclehttps://lnkd.in/d3HvQ4jY in Gaming: Latest Developments Sometimes, it is hard to imagine a world without playing some computer games that will take you out of this world and open doors to new universes that are beyond your imagination. However, in reality, it’s been only a couple of decades since the gaming industry has taken such momentum - which is a pretty short time in comparison to the long history of humanity. There are indeed video games since almost the 1950s. However, the golden age of gaming only started with the invention of the internet and, of course, the artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that elevated the gaming experience. The advantages of AI in gaming industry perfected the sector and created the gaming experience that we know today by presenting a bright future of AI in gaming. According to research by Future of Humanity Institute, there is a 50% possibility that within 45 years the AI will outmatch the humans in all the tasks. This is such a bold claim and makes people wonder, what does AI do exactly to replace humans? The AI is trying to mimic humans by generating intelligent behaviors. When it comes to gaming, this aim of AI reflects as a form of interactive experiences that witness the non-human elements of the game being responsive and impactful within the game. They make the games more fun, unique and creative, which makes them a highly demanded quality when it comes to game preferences. Origins of AI in gaming industry (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle
