My daughter just learned how to ride a scooter 🛴 Here’s what this has taught me about B2B sales: 1) Patience is key - Just as teaching your kid to ride a scooter requires patience, so does nurturing a B2B relationship. This has been a hard lesson since I have no patience. 2) Forgetfulness is an asset - Much like how I forgot to teach her how to brake, forgetting minor details in B2B sales can sometimes lead to new conversations: "Oh I already contacted you 12 times this month?"……..”sorry you’re upset at the frequency of my messages”…………”but…..at least you responded” 3) Overconfidence is key - Teaching her to scoot before she was ready? You bet. In B2B sales, showing over-confidence in meetings can sometimes make people believe you know what you're doing. Worked for me the last 10 years. 4) Celebrate small victories - Every little milestone, like the first successful ride without support, is a cause for celebration. In B2B sales, I apply this principle by regularly visualising the victories and the chugging of the beers after each deal. Then I move on to snapping out of that day dream, taking a deep breath, and shaking the magic 8 ball to figure out what to do next.
