“It doesn't matter what the part is, what it goes on, everything additive is considered high risk.” From Greek Philosophy to self-healing materials and submarine engineering to rocket engine manufacture, the 2024 Additive Manufacturing for Aerospace, Defence and Space (AMADS) Conference was the setting for a wide ranging discussion about additive manufacturing's implementation in the aforementioned fields. Across two days of conferencing, here's what we learnt - featuring the development of a formal AM strategy at the Ministry of Defence, how NATO is working to address the industry's calls for digital inventories, and why the UK is playing catch up to the US. “Compared to where we were two years ago, we are far more mature, far more coherent.” Read more >> https://lnkd.in/du5Ubvdt #3DPrinting #AdditiveMfg #Defence #Aerospace

Last week, I sat among 200 delegates from aerospace & defence organisations, primes and suppliers as they discussed the success they've had with additive manufacturing so far, and what they need to take application of the technology to the next level. It included the development of standards and strategies, digital inventories and next-gen vehicles, and plenty of discussion about cost, education & training too. The conference consisted of 30+ speakers across two very long days of conferencing, so I haven't been able to include everything (and, as someone who works for an event organiser, I'd obviously encourage you to buy a ticket to such events if you want to know everything that was discussed), but this hopefully provides a flavour of last week's Defence iQ AMADS Conference and the implementation of AM in the aerospace & defence sectors generally.
