The soil, plants and planet are connected. When it comes to the climate crisis, reducing emissions is not enough, we need a multiplicity of solutions. The very practices that heal our soil, heal our planet. The soil environment can hold more amounts of carbon than the atmosphere and plants living on it’s surface combined. Infact, for every 1% increase in soil organic matter to an acre of land, 10 tonnes of carbon are drawn down from the atmosphere. According to the UN, the world’s remaining topsoil will be gone in the next 60 years. In other words, unless we find a way to save our soil, we only have 60 harvests left. Bio-sequestration is using plants and trees to trap and store carbon in the soil for decades, if not centuries. Photosynthesis of plants and the micro organisms in the soil equals regeneration.
