Reposting for Michael. The more that we align efforts for United States Department of Defense implementation of #AdditiveManufacturing the better. A principle goal of this would be to ensure collaboration is happening between each branch of service. Having a #hubandspoke or a webbed network of 3D printing capability is critical. Commander's should be vested in knowing where these capabilities are physically located in order to leverage the technology closest to their unit at a time of need where AM can be the interim or final solution. Secondly the service(s) need a sound methodology of notifying the owner of the technology and IF they have capability and capacity to support other units with orders for parts, components, testing, evaluation and ultimately delivery and implementation of AM produced items. The JAMWG (Joint Additive Manufacturing Working Group) plays a key role in the success of the above model. Find out more on the JAMWG at the link in Mike's post. Once on the site you can find key Articles, Plans Policies, Reports, and current happenings in the AM space within the DoD.
I have been surprised over the past year how many internal DOD AM teams have lost track of the JAMWG… If you support a DOD team focused on additive manufacturing, reach out to the group and request to participate!!!! Stay connected to the larger DOD AM community, and help in the knowledge share that really moves us all forward together! If you are not an internal DOD group and want to support, consider working with America Makes who plays a key role in JAMWG and helping push DOD initiatives in additive manufacturing! #additivemanufacturing #3dprinting #usmilitary #dod

What a great step forward in normalizing metal binder jet technology.
I am excited to announce HP 3D Printing’s collaboration with the United States Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Technology Office to pioneer advanced manufacturing solutions in support of the revitalization of the Submarine Industrial Base. 🚀 Together with our binder jetting partners, HP is exploring new frontiers in metal #AdditiveManufacturing through our cutting-edge Metal Jet technology. This collaboration will allow for the use of new materials and designs for ship construction and shorten production timelines from months to mere days! I extend my gratitude to the Naval Sea Systems Command Technology Office for their partnership and shared vision. Together we are shaping the future of defense manufacturing to ensure our Armed Forces can succeed in an ever-evolving global landscape.

In the production of our defense vehicle components, safety and stability are essential. Suspension arms for off-road defense vehicles represent a pivotal engineering achievement. These components are manufactured in a two-step process under an 8000-ton mechanical press, followed by heat treatment. Finally, they undergo non-destructive testing, specifically a MT test, to ensure they are free from defects and are finished through precision machining. #bertot #metallurgy #defense #defenceindustry

US Army commissions 3YOURMIND to identify 10,000 parts for additive manufacturing 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corporation Federal Branch are collaborating with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) to support additive manufacturing parts identification activities. 3YOURMIND will analyze approximately 10,000 parts selected by GVSC and evaluate them based on technical feasibility, lead time and cost. Once the assessment is complete, GVSC will be able to determine which spare parts are suitable for use in additive manufacturing. GVSC, together with the U.S. Army Tank and Weapons Command (TACOM), will use 3YOURMIND software to identify potential AdvM parts needed to sustain and maintain legacy systems. DEVCOM GVSC is responsible for introducing innovations in ground vehicle technology, e.g. modernization and ensuring the continuity of spare parts for the M113 armored personnel carrier. With the help of Wichita State University's National Institute of Aeronautical Research (WSU-NIAR), GVSC successfully reverse-engineered and developed a digital twin of the M113. GVSC will use 3YOURMIND software to evaluate M113 data and identify parts that can be manufactured using AM to add additional manufacturing methods. The #French-#German defense giant KNDS France (KMW+Nexter Defense Systems) has announced the creation of a #Ukrainian subsidiary. BFM reported on this. Franco-German battle tank maker KNDS announced on Friday, June 7, the creation of a Ukrainian subsidiary in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The French company KNDS and the Ukrainian company ENMEK signed two letters of intent, one of which concerns the creation of a maintenance center for CAESAR self-propelled howitzers, and the other – 3D printing of spare parts. A contract was also formalized to deploy licensed production of 155-mm shells in Ukraine. In March, KNDS announced plans to set up a subsidiary. This decision was agreed during talks between German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his French counterpart Sébastien Lecornu. The French Minister noted that the KNDS plant would produce ammunition and spare parts for the maintenance of German and French armored vehicles and weapons’ systems already in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The creation of the KNDS enterprise in Ukraine is intended to ensure prompt repair of military equipment already delivered by France and Germany. This includes spare parts for the French #Caesar wheeled self-propelled howitzers and AMX10RC armored fighting vehicles. As well as German Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers and Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The idea is to first prioritize the production in Ukraine of parts that break down frequently, and thus “simplify logistical issues” during the repair and maintenance of the relevant equipment and speed up its return to the battlefield. It was also reported at the end of March that the Ukrainian staff of the future factory of the Franco-German association KNDS (KMW and NEXTER Defense Systems) would go to France for training this year. https://lnkd.in/dkEgcPAw

5-axis CNC machining stands out in the manufacturing industry for its ability to perform complex cuts from virtually any angle, thanks to its additional rotational axes. Unlike 3-axis machines, a 5-axis CNC machine operates with the standard X, Y, and Z linear axes plus two additional rotational axes, often referred to as A and B or C. It enables continuous machining of complex parts without the need to reposition the workpiece. Industries like aerospace, military & defence, and medicine benefit significantly from this technology, where complex geometries and high precision are critical. #5AxisCNC #CNCMachining #BenMachine #EngineeringExcellence #ManufacturingInnovation #PrecisionMachining
