Responding to rising crime, Chicago's civic leaders, including Hyatt Hotels, have stepped up efforts to curb violence through a $66M 'Scaling Community Violence Intervention' campaign. With backing from the Pritzker Foundation and Crown Family, the initiative is set to enhance existing grassroots programs over the next decade. The hospitality industry has a vested interest in supporting safer cities. As demonstrated by Hyatt, businesses can make an impact through social responsibility efforts addressing localized needs. Wise investors seeking a return on investment (ROI) understand that community health is directly tied to economic health. Collaborative efforts like these underscore the power of public-private partnerships to drive progressive change. Chicago sets an example for other cities struggling with violence, encouraging them to pursue coordinated action plans backed by unified funding. #socialimpact #csr #community

Too often systems are designed for people, rather than with people, and to solve homelessness this needs to change. Our community’s response to homelessness has markedly improved as a result of intentionally sharing power with those who have the deepest understanding of the crisis. Most recently, Destination: Home co-hosted the 2024 National Lived Experience Leadership Conference in partnership with National Coalition for the Homeless to invest in the leadership development of those with lived experience who are driving forward solutions to homelessness in their communities. Sarah Z. and I recently had the privilege of participating in the Homelessness Solutions Roundtable hosted by Senator Tan Parker. This working session, the first of many, brought together stakeholders from across the state to engage in an honest conversation about this growing crisis and explore policy solutions that can truly make a difference. The diversity of voices in the room, including policymakers, community advocates, service providers, and business leaders, underscored how essential a collective impact approach is to tackling homelessness across Texas. Addressing this issue requires everyone’s involvement, but I believe the business community holds a particularly vital role. Not just because homelessness affects economic growth and community stability, but because standing up for our most vulnerable is the right, moral thing to do. As business leaders, we have the resources, influence, and responsibility to contribute to sustainable, long-term solutions – ones that provide support for those in need while also fostering safe, thriving communities for our employees, customers, and neighbors. It was inspiring to see so many individuals dedicated to finding a unified path forward. Texans deserve better, and I am confident that through collaboration, we can drive meaningful change and create solutions that benefit everyone. Together, we can ensure our great state remains a place where people want to live, work, visit, and invest. #HomelessnessSolutions #CollectiveImpact #TexasStrong #BusinessLeadership #CommunityFirst #CommunityImpact #Leadership #BusinessResponsibility #Collaboration Refuge For Renewal

We just spent the week with amazing #communitydevelopment practitioners at the 2024 Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) conference. This week brought all I hoped it would -- #encouragement, #inspiration and fantastic #connections. As we congregated with #grassroots, in-the-field, community-based #nonprofits and #developers, I am reminded of some simple principles: ☑️ Every square inch matters. Whether your community work covers 100 square miles, one lot or one square inch, do what you can where you are with #excellence. Everyone working where they are planted is how the work gets done. ☑️ Don't be afraid to ask for #help. There really is nothing new under the sun. Someone has figured it out, #trekked this road, and faced these #challenges. Set down your pride, your #imposture syndrome, self doubts or whatever is keeping you from asking for help, and ask for help when you need it. ☑️ Find your #people. I've said it before, but it's crucial. Find those who share your #passions, your #principles and your #calling and connect with them. Develop #honest, #authentic #relationships with people you can lean on, #learn from and #encourage during the tough times. ☑️ Share your #story. Share the #successes and #failures, the #struggles and the #triumphs. The #journey of community development work is hard. We need to #hear the stories of those traveling alongside us and we need to tell our #stories to others. I am encouraged that so many amazing #projects, #leaders and community activists are working across this nation to make their #neighborhoods, towns and #cities places where everyone can #thrive. Many thanks to all of you tireless #warriors doing the work day in and day out. I see you and I am #inspired by you. Getting Started with Welcoming: Resources for Community Foundations 📚⬇️ Alongside our partner CFLeads, we hosted a community of practice for #CommunityFoundations in 2024. Fifteen participants spent months deepening their #welcoming and #belonging work. What did they learn? 🤝 As local leaders, community foundations can play multiple roles to advance belonging in their communities, such as funder, convener, champion, or partner. 📖 Community foundations can lean on existing frameworks and resources, like the Welcoming Standard and SDGs, to effectively respond to demographic changes and migration. 💡 Having time to reflect and interact with peers is invaluable for community leaders who want to connect what’s happening in their communities with the bigger picture. Dive into more insights from leaders including Jessica Wurtz at Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley, Jonathan Cohen at Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and Brandi Yee at ACT for Alexandria: https://lnkd.in/eKxvsTDU
