As we quickly head into the last part of the year, we prepare to pay homage to the brave women and men of our beloved military. In advance of #VeteransDay2023, we stand committed to helping the military community and their families be better prepared for transitioning into the civilian workforce. To that end, I’m proud to announce that my 3PT team and I are once again delivering the Salute to Service Veterans Career Development workshop presented by #Boeing, in partnership with the Dallas Cowboys. If you’re active-duty, a veteran, or a family member, please join us Thursday, November 2nd from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm CT at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Our workshop will help attendees plan, prepare, and execute a comprehensive and intentional career search strategy. Food, snacks, and beverages will be provided. There is NO cost to attend. Our session is interactive, inspiring, and full of valuable information to help our veteran community thrive in today’s workforce. In addition to the workshop, we encourage all attendees to bring their resume, as we’ll also have a career fair with companies from across the DFW metroplex. It’s your chance to meet and speak with hiring managers from these organizations who may have the right opportunity for you. Lastly, we’ll have a photographer 📷 who will be providing FREE professional headshots. Come camera-ready, as you’ll be able to use these photos for your LinkedIn profile and business use. For the #serviceandsacrifice the women & men of our armed forces offer to our country, it’s incumbent upon us to provide the support…mentally, emotionally, and career-wise to help them navigate their journey to a new career and reinvigorated chapter of their lives. Remember to consider our military family for potential opportunities within your organization. They possess intrinsic attributes like leadership, the ability to perform under duress, tremendous organizational and logistical skills, and confidence in the face of ambiguity and chaos. Today, we come together to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to pay tribute to the courageous #firstresponders who selflessly answered the call of duty on that fateful day. September 11, 2001 also serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of unity in the face of tragedy. Let us carry forward the lessons learned from that day, ensuring that we remain vigilant in our commitment to peace and justice. Together, we can build a world that honors the memory of those who perished and celebrates the bravery of those #military personnel and First Responders who served then and still serve now. As we reflect on the events of that day, we reaffirm our commitment to remembering the past, while fostering hope for a brighter future. Navigating Career Transitions: Strategies for Success Series 👇 In the midst of a hashtag #jobsearch, it's easy to overlook fundamental principles that can significantly impact your success. Emotions and anxiety can cloud judgment, leading to missed opportunities and missteps. These are key points that are often neglected, but are crucial for a successful job search. By re-acquainting yourself with these essential strategies, you can enhance your approach and improve your chances of landing the job you desire. 📌 Formulate and Perfect your Personal Value Proposition (Elevator Pitch): Craft a concise and compelling personal value proposition that captures your skills and experiences. Think of it as a brief Twitter/X post rather than a lengthy Facebook story. Practice delivering it until it feels natural and confident. 📌 Prepare for the Interview: Research the company thoroughly, including its culture, recent news, and the individuals with whom you will be interviewing. Understanding the organization’s performance, both financially and in the industry, will help you engage in meaningful conversations during the interview. 📌 Optimize Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile: Your resume and LinkedIn profile are critical tools in your job search. Ensure they are up-to-date and reflect your narrative accurately. LinkedIn is particularly important as it is the primary platform through which employers search for and connect with potential candidates. 📌 Don’t Casper 👻 Anyone: Avoid the temptation to ghost potential employers or contacts. Respond to all correspondence promptly, even if it’s just to acknowledge receipt of their message. Maintaining open lines of communication demonstrates professionalism and integrity. 📌 Back-to-Basics (BTB): It may seem simple, but always remember to say “Please” and “Thank You.” Sending thank-you emails, handwritten notes, or even video messages after interviews can leave an indelible positive impression and reinforce your appreciation for the opportunity. By keeping these fundamental points in mind during your job search, you can navigate the process with clarity and confidence, ultimately leading to better outcomes. ➡ Follow me for more recommendations on how to navigate your career transformation. Navigating Career Transitions: Strategies for Success ⬇ The impact of recent layoffs across various industries has been palpable. Having personally navigated my own career transition very recently, I am reminded of the emotions and strategies that helped me secure my next great role. Whether you’re separating from the military, a professional sports career, or simply seeking the next step in your professional evolution, transitioning from one phase of life to another, particularly in terms of career, can be filled with anxiety and uncertainty. The success you achieve during this period largely depends on your mindset, attitude, and a bit of luck. Here are some crucial elements to consider and keep in mind as you search for your next role. 💡 Treat Every Interaction as a Potential Interview When you're out there networking and meeting new people, it's essential to treat every interaction as a potential interview. Avoid conveying a sense of despair or negativity. If you find yourself feeling down, take a moment to stop and reset. Remember, you get what you give, so aim to project assertiveness, curiosity, and positivity. 💡 Embrace the New Chapter in Your Story Rather than viewing this transitional period as the end of a phase in your life, consider it the beginning of a new chapter in your story. As cliché as it may sound, make sure that you are the author of this story and that you set the narrative. This mindset shift can empower you to take control of your journey and shape it according to your aspirations. 🏆 🤔 Win or Learn In the realm of career transitions, you either Win or you Learn. The "Win" could be securing an interview, successfully navigating the hiring process, or ultimately landing the job. However, if you don't get an offer, you haven't lost. Instead, you gain valuable experience and insights that can help you course-correct when necessary. ➡ Follow me for more recommendations on how to navigate your career transformation. Plan. Prepare. More than 150 years after the first #Juneteenth, we’re still fighting for true equality for Black people to have the same freedoms and opportunities afforded them like their fellow Americans. To institute and influence real change, it’s important we acknowledge what mistakes we must avoid again and commit to not repeating those horrible missteps. We should all seek to galvanize the desire for a community of true equality and inclusion for everyone. We need to ensure that voices are heard and action is implemented to nurture a culture of inclusivity and racial equity. The most important part of all this is to be accountable and truly commit to the often-times uncomfortable conversations to elicit authentic dialogue and change. Recognized as this country’s second #IndependenceDay, Juneteenth has left an indelible impact on our nation’s complicated history. For many Americans, it’s the birth of our modern country and the inauguration of the concept of absolute liberty and justice ALL. #Juneteenth #DEI&B #Inclusion #EqualityForAll Glenda CottleLakeydra HoustonDan Allinger, PCC, MNLP #3PT

Looking for a new job/career carries the same basic tenets as selling. Make no mistake about it, YOU ARE A SALESPERSON. You’re selling your background, accolades, expertise, and passion as a professional to those with whom you are talking. As with any sales engagement, you might have to recalibrate your approach to accommodate the nuances of the situation. In the end, your focus is to close the deal. Salespeople hear this all the time and live by it. In the realm of a job search, closing the deal can mean a few things, but they all equate to forward progress. Oftentimes, I notice that job seekers simply don’t ask for the next step. I often pose the question in some form or fashion, “Based on what we talked about today, is there anything that would preclude me from moving to the next phase/step?” CLOSE THE DEAL…ASK FOR THE NEXT STEP. If the response is positive, ask with whom you will be speaking and what is the timeframe. Put the proverbial ball back into their court so you can hold them accountable, know when to follow-up, and prepare for the next conversation. The greatest opportunities are born through adversity. We all have #blindspots that prevent us from realizing certain behaviors that may impede or negatively impact our forward progress. It's not uncommon that we may become myopic in the way we perceive ourselves as it relates to ability, experience, and the way we react to situations. Those blind spots may even impact how we assess whether or not a role is a good fit for ourselves. A good idea to address this is to build your own personal Board of Directors. This #BOD would be comprised of 3-4 trusted individuals who you know will give you objective, unfiltered, no-BS feedback on what you’re good at, what your weaknesses are, and if the role for which you're interested is a good fit or not. Think of them as your personal/professional sounding board. I mix mine up with personal friends and professional colleagues who I know will offer up their honest assessment and wisdom. Sometimes we need that dose of different perspective to ensure we're seeing all aspects of a scenario and that we're making a prudent decision. Build your personal BOD today. You'll find that people are very much willing to offer their insight to help you make the right choice. The greatest opportunities are born through adversity.
