🎂 Happy 6th birthday to assemble! 🎂 Six years ago on the Tuesday after Labor Day, I set up a bank account so I could take my first client. Here's what I'd tell baby Alix 6 years ago: 🤝 Your relationships are not the pipeline: Relationships are important for a million reasons but lots of people who support you does not mean it will convert to business after the newness of launching wears off. Get smart about a real pipeline now. 👓 Find your weak spots: My own lack of confidence in math, finance, and tax has held me and my business back. Look at what you aren't good at square in the face and figure it out or hire people to figure it out. Don't procrastinate because it's hard. 🔮 It all matters: It's easy to decide some things don't matter. It's harder to decide how MUCH something matters. Every email, every slide, every conversation matters; you must decide how to right size your effort to its relative importance. Sidenote, sometimes the seemingly small stuff matters more than the big stuff. Today starts the clock on the next 6 year plan (6 is my lucky number) which features supporting other small business with smart contracting, building products that deliver patient insights to clients in hours not weeks, and investing in the people around me like early clients, friends, and contractors invested in me. And, more vacation. 🌴

I hear so many stories of frustrations between sales and marketing departments. Every story I hear reminds me just how lucky I am to work with Brandon Christiansen and Helen Torrence. This is how Sales and Marketing should work together. If you don’t have this now, I hope you get there soon. Why do I still do it?! After 37 years in the game, you might think I'm having a midlife crisis, but really, I'm just taking a moment to appreciate how far we've come. It all started back in 1986 at Bumpers Farm, Chippenham, with a small office supplies firm. Since then, it's been a journey of growth and passion, moving from basic stationery to comprehensive commercial Design and Build. *Three Key Lessons I've Learned:* 👉 Adaptability: Transitioning from stationery to design required constant learning and adaptation. 👉 Community: Building relationships and sharing successes has been crucial for growth. 👉 Passion: Staying passionate about creating spaces where creativity flourishes and productivity thrives keeps me motivated every day. So, that's my story. But enough about me - what's been your biggest lesson in your career journey so far?

As someone who is in their 15th year of active duty service, life had directed me towards finding a life outside of duty days and endlessly repetitive work. It’s overwhelming when you dive into a site like LinkedIn where it feels like you are trying to simultaneously listen to 5 audio books on self improvement while another dozen neon signs for “premier employment” shine amidst an unexplored path ahead. What are some tips you would give to someone who is navigating this platform and trying to foster mutually beneficial relationships and, “illuminate the street lamps ahead”, so to speak?

Three things that are brat summer vs three things that aren't 💚: So brat summer: 1. Starting the day with Monster Energy ⚡ 2. Pitching the wild creative ideas you have even if when it feels scary✨ 3. Cold emailing folks when you are interested in getting involved with what they do 💖 Not brat summer: 1. Sitting all day when you have a sit/stand adjustable desk 👎 2. Forgetting to set your OOO auto-reply message to include a link to your portfolio (free and cute self-promo opportunity!) 💌 3. Being afraid to be yourself in the office 😙 What are your ins and outs for brat summer 💚?

What lights you up at work? What are those projects that you do that you zone in and crank out and don’t stop because your in it to win it and you don’t realize 4 hours went by? That you can’t even tell your working because.. well - it’s FUN? Gosh I had one of those this past week! I was working on a strategy/consulting evaluation for a buyer with Nuria Rizzo and we got in “crank mode”. We were having a blast combing data, trends, and historical shelf pictures and building strategy. Yes ! Straight up nerded out 😎. We got to showcase it this week and decided to capture thoughts/ ideas on an idea board - that was also fun and something this merchant had never done before. It’s always been a life goal to do meaningful work (ya know the kind where I can’t tell I’m doing work or having fun), with people that I love ❤️ , and for people that appreciate it! What do you nerd out on ?
