The 3rd Space: Beyond Binaries in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Happy #EDIfridays to our vibrant community! 🌟 Yesterday, one of our team members found themselves in a fascinating discussion at a networking event about the essence of our company's name, "3rd Space Consulting". We realized this might be the perfect moment to share with all of you the profound meaning and ambition behind our name, especially in the context of EDI. The concept of a "third space", inspired by postcolonial sociolinguistic theory, reflects the idea of creating a unique, hybrid space where traditional binaries and power structures are dissolved. This space is not about reversing roles but about transcending the existing frameworks to foster a truly inclusive environment where every individual can thrive. At 3rd Space Consulting, we embody this philosophy by challenging misunderstood notions of equity, diversity, and inclusion (as well as reconciliation). We recognize that moving to a "third space" — beyond the "first space" of current societal structures and the "second space" of reversed power dynamics — is crucial for genuine collaboration and innovation. This "third space" is where we all can come together, free of the oppression and stereotypes that often divide us, to create solutions that benefit everyone. It's about acknowledging and celebrating our differences, not as divisions, but as strengths that contribute to a richer, more diverse tapestry. So when we talk about EDI, we're not advocating for a simple shift in power. We're pushing for a new paradigm, a space where everyone's unique identity contributes to a shared, collective progress. This is what "3rd Space Consulting" stands for: a commitment to fostering an environment where diverse voices and perspectives are not just heard but are integral to our collective success. Let's discuss: How can we apply the concept of the "third space" in our daily practices to promote a more inclusive workplace? Share your thoughts and experiences below! https://lnkd.in/ggBFEUed #EDIFridays #EquityDiversityInclusion #ThirdSpace #ManagementConsulting #ConsultingInCanada

While we may disagree deeply and passionately with those who hold different views, we've all been taught to disagree in the same way: seek to win, not lose; to be understood, not understand; to assert facts, not explore them; on and on. To solve the contentious problems we face today—climate change, immigration, polarization—we need to handle our disagreements differently. We need to learn how to disagree without being so disagreeable, to use our conflicts to invent options no one alone could imagine, to turn our differences into a positive force for change. This is what I explore with Michaela Estruth on WRFH Radio Free Hillsdale 101.7FM. I hope you listen and let me know what it makes you think/feel. https://lnkd.in/eKswsxsA __ SUBSCRIBE to Remaking The Space on Substack: https://lnkd.in/edtMareY & ORDER Remaking The Space Between Us: https://amzn.to/3yzb2Xe #RemakingTheSpace

Re-conceptualizing how public space is perceived today in tandem with how they are envisioned has to do not only with the future of a city but also with its past.

So, how can we contribute to promoting peace and understanding amid such complex conflicts? Furthermore, the extension of a state of emergency in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, unveils the enduring strength of communities grappling with adversity, 💪 while the overturning of the ban on bullfighting in Mexico City exposes the divergent paths of tradition and modernity. Thanks to those who participated in the Project Ploughshares feminist consultation on human insecurities in space, and those who helped organize, facilitate, take notes, and sift through implications of the discussion. 💫 Access the final report here: https://lnkd.in/eSHVM2JW With funding from the Department of National Defence/Ministère de la défense nationale MINDS (Mobilizing Insights in Defence and Security) program, the consultation aimed to: 1) better understand the differentiated human implications of security and insecurity related to outer space; 2) articulate diverse experiences of insecurity related to outer space to inform both domestic and global policy responses; 3) consider alternative approaches to, and perspectives on, peace, security, and disarmament that might provide new ways of identifying, thinking about, and responding to the collective security environment in outer space; 4) expand the scope of dialogue on gendered and intersectional approaches to peace and security in outer space and inspire additional research by others. A core conclusion from the consultation on human (in)securities in outer space is the need for new conversations on space security. Although there has been some effort to expand participation in diplomatic processes, the underlying objective of inclusivity is change.

🌎 Space Debris DAO 🌏 Institute for Legal Transformation 🌍 Economic Incentives for Space Sustainability - DLT talent, ASCEND D12 - 2024
🎉 Excited to share the first recording from my speech at ASCEND at Caesars forum. - Quite an experience to talk about our collective human consciousness on stage at a space conference in #LasVegas ✅ The 1. Reason why I became active in the space economy is the potential for our shared awareness of who and where we are. I do see immense potential in a large scale #overvieweffect once we realize we're all in this together on this tiny pale blue dot. ✅ The 2. Reason I joined the space sector is its enormous potential to solve our shared problems. Space based internet, Earth imagery and #solarenergy provide value for people across the planet. It also enhances international collaboration as we need many smart people from many different places to do really hard things. ✅ The 3. Reason I focus on space is that the #newspaceeconomy is at a critical point right now. If we manage to shape a new kind of economy that rewards responsibility and collaboration rather than short-term profit seeking, we can build an unprecedented global system that humanity shares for collective benefits like climate change resilience, food security, and global connectivity. ✖️ Unfortunately, we are still far from taking this opportunity. Instead, we are repeating the same linear economic patterns in space that have caused irreversible damage on Earth. 🚀That's why we created Space Debris DAO to incentivize space safety and sustainability standards while building a community that learns and grows together beyond our planetary limitations. 💬Comment or DM me to learn how to get involved!
