We are often asked to explain FOLD and TRACE DENSITY. In simple terms, FOLD is a measure of redundancy. How many times a subsurface location (Bin or CDP) has been sampled. In the posted diagram, there are 3 source-receiver pairs with a common depth point. This particular CDP would have 3 fold. TRACE DENSITY is a measure of the number of seismic traces per unit area (km2 or mi2). In the posted diagram, there are 9 source-receiver pairs, creating 9 traces, in the given area.
