Support for complex needs children is FOR LIFE, not just for Christmas!🎄 As a parent of a child with life-limiting needs, I know first-hand how challenging the day-to-day can be. Managing my son’s care is a 24/7 responsibility, and as hard as it is, it has also opened my eyes to the deep need for support and connection among families like mine. That’s why I founded Thrive Care Solutions – to help families who care for children with complex needs feel empowered and supported, whether it’s through training, resources, or simply knowing someone else truly understands. But there’s only so much I can do alone, as a parent and a business owner. The emotional and financial toll of caring for a family member with complex needs is often overlooked. This Christmas, I want to make a difference, and I’m reaching out to businesses and retail partners who can help us do just that.🙏 By partnering with me and Thrive Care Solutions, I would be extremely grateful if you are able to donate toys (new), gifts, wellbeing services, or experiences that will brighten the lives of families who need it most – not just for the children but for siblings and parents too. An incredibly generous donation from Northgate Market of 90 baby blankets 🚼 A key category of our baby basic distributions is “comfort items” and blankets & swaddles are always items that are quick to go! So, receiving this in-kind donation is not only kind but so helpful to our moms & families who need support. What may just seem like a comfort item is so much more… it is a basic need that supports the emotional well-being of our kiddos, even as babies. Baby blankets can help provide a sense of familiarity and security to babies, especially during times of stress or change. So not only are they necessary for warmth, but they are quite literally physical examples of how connected basic needs are to our mental health. Serving is what I do. I search for opportunities and organizations that allow me to be involved in every way possible. Since I have a tremendous passion for children and a heart to help, I didn’t blink an eye when I met John Widrick, Director of the Bridge House, and heard about their mission. Even the process of forms, background checks and meetings to be approved for the in-house care team didn’t scare me. My desire to help those in need supersedes any frustrations of red tape. This ministry is more than just checking an internal “volunteer” box or getting that tax write-off for a donation; this is about changing a life.” For Amber Graves, you’ll find her diving in wherever there’s a need: giving her time to volunteer at the house, provide a huge platter of enchiladas through the meal train, even being part of the event planning team and connecting others to The Bridge House, encouraging them to take up the giving baton. “I’m going to get my kids involved, so they can experience with me what a true servant’s heart is and the impact it makes on the world around. Did you know that in just the first year of being open, Covered House has already had a major impact on survivors recovering from trafficking? Since opening, over 1203 healthy meals have been served, over 395 safe nights of sleep have been had, and over 627 group counseling sessions have been held. Survivors have said things like: “This is the first good night’s sleep I’ve had. I can’t remember the last time I slept through the whole night.” “I finally feel safe to express emotions and be myself.” “Thank you for treating me like a human being.” They have been able to recover and focus on taking care of themselves while going through the program. 🌸 We want to take a moment to share a deeply touching poem written by one of our participants after the loss of her husband, Kevin. Though she couldn’t join our recent Memory Walk, she expressed her emotions through this poignant writing. “A continuing ‘loop’ of remembering Kevin during his last few weeks of life. I do remember the happy times, but this is much more difficult, and also remembering Kevin during the time of his dementia is very much to the fore. I find it difficult and painful to go to places we had been together, which is sometimes unavoidable as many are local, like the park, certain shops, and cafes. It’s especially painful to go through the menswear sections of shops. I feel the silence and emptiness when I return home. Usually, I put on the radio or TV, which helps, and I busy myself by making a drink or tidying up. I miss sharing our meals together, cooking for us, and also caring for Kevin. When I previously cried, the person who always comforted me (pre-dementia) was Kevin, and I really miss that comfort, which adds to the feeling of ‘alonement.’ GUILT—about nearly everything!” Her words capture the raw realities of grief, loneliness, and the memories that remain. It serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges many face after losing a loved one. 💙 At Community Solutions, we recognise the complexities of grief and are dedicated to offering support during these overwhelming times. We all receive help along the way." I don't know about you, but a big part of my support system are the four-legged creatures that live in my home and all the ones I meet along the way. So, this year, I am focusing on one wonderful rescue that has made a big difference in my life this past year. Three Stooges Rescue (I know... cutest name EVER!) does beautiful work with rescues in South Florida, and took in the hospice foster I had, Mindy... they even managed to find an adopter for her! I have fostered for over a decade and used to work for the SPCA, and I can tell you, this is one of the good ones. Rescue is my passion and I cannot think of anything that would make me happier than to help the rescue that has helped so many special puppies.
