Check out this 3-minute blog - While all landfills share a common purpose—a place to safely dispose of solid waste—some are more efficient than others. The most efficient landfills, and therefore the most profitable ones, know how to fill their airspace effectively. Landfill airspace is valuable and maximizing it is the prime responsibility of site managers, helping them reduce operating costs and improve their overall bottom line. https://bit.ly/3vprpnz #Landfill #constructionindustry #groundworks #civilengineering #wastemanagement #digitalconstruction #construction

Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of Heavy-Duty Trenching in Infrastructure Projects The world beneath our feet is a complex network of utilities, from power lines and fiber optic cables to water and sewer pipes. Installing and maintaining this essential infrastructure often necessitates digging trenches. But what if there was a way to minimize surface disruption and environmental impact? This is where heavy-duty trenching comes in.https://https://lnkd.in/dNH4A5bz

I am excited to share with you the publication of our latest research paper in the International Water Association Journal: AQUA - Water Infrastructure, Ecosystems and Society. This paper addresses a major challenge that the majority of the municipalities are facing in today's world; Aging municipal infrastructure and need for enhancing municipal infrastructure planning. In collaboration with my friends and colleagues Amin Minaei, Mohsen Hajibabaei, Dragan Savic FREng, Aaron Zecchin, Enrico Creaco, and Sitzenfrei Robert, we developed a framework aimed at closing that gap and ensure more efficient utilization of municipal financial resources. In today's urban environments, municipalities face the dual challenges of #aginginfrastructure and budget deficits, compounded by the increased public nuisance caused by outdated systems. Traditional one-phase construction approaches often fail to address the complex, interdependent nature of municipal networks, leading to inefficiencies and escalating costs. Our study highlights the benefits of a phased planning approach for municipal infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of considering the time-dependent status of multiple networks. Unlike traditional methods that treat each infrastructure element separately, this approach integrates the planning of water, sewer, and road networks corridor-wise, optimizing both the number of phases and intervention decisions. Through adopting phased optimization, municipalities can significantly reduce costs and improve the efficiency of infrastructure projects. This innovative approach enhances coordination among different systems, leading to more sustainable and resilient urban environments. By leveraging data-driven methodologies, we can better address the pressing challenges of aging infrastructure and budget constraints, ultimately minimizing public disruption and enhancing the quality of life for our communities. It’s time to drive forward smarter infrastructure solutions to build stronger and more resilient and sustainable cities for the future! Note: If you are interested to learn more about the topic, please feel free to reach out. Additionally, if you are attending the coming International Water Association conference in Toronto between August 11 and 15, Amin Minaei will be presenting our work and will be happy to share further details. #UrbanPlanning #Infrastructure #AssetManagement #MunicipalManagement #PhasedOptimization #CostSavings #Sustainability #SmartCities #Roads #Water #Pipes #researchimpact

Did you see some of the recent headlines, in the Sunday Times and elsewhere, about London’s “Cathedral of 💩“ being ready for business? This really is a huge feat of engineering. Now that the gigantic ‘lid’ is in place (weighing 1,200 tonnes and 24 metres in diameter), sewerage can start pouring in here … 1.6 million tonnes of it!! No less than 15 miles long, and having taken 8 years to build, this really is one sewer to rule them all! The ‘super sewer’ is “designed to dramatically reduce sewage pollution in the central London River Thames. In a typical year, tens of millions of tons of storm sewage spill into the River Thames but, once fully operational in 2025, the new infrastructure will reduce those spills almost completely. The Super Sewer is being constructed by a joint venture of Costain Upstream Ltd, Bachy Soletanche and VINCI working for Tideway, the company building the super sewer for Thames Water.” Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could have real-time monitoring of water quality in our rivers? That’s something CSignum and partners can do. Our cable-free wireless communications from underwater to above the surface can help provide all the data needed for sewage-free rivers and coastal waters to be a reality. https://lnkd.in/eefAGRXg #waterqualitymonitoring #realtime #cablefree
