The research group Ubiquitin Signaling Specificity (Dr. Sonja Lorenz) invites applications for the position of PhD or Postdoc in Specificity mechanisms of ubiquitin ligase complexes at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences. The project aims to explore structure-function relationships in ubiquitin ligases. Building on strong preliminary data, available projects focus on: (i) the isolation/ biochemical reconstitution of ubiquitin ligases complexes with substrates and regulators for cryo-EM analyses; (ii) the cell-based identification of ubiquitin ligase complexes and functional analyses; (iii) solution NMR analyses of the regulation and conformational dynamics of ubiquitination enzymes. Almost a year and a month ago, I graduated wih a Ph.D. in Molecular science & Nanotechnology. I was privileged to have been offered a postdoctoral position, something that seemed to be next logical step in my career. I was enthused by the prospect of gaining valuable work experience and contributing my little quota to an interesting field of neuroscience. My work over this period entailed conducting experiments to determine the mechanisms and treatment effects of novel peptide-based compounds on wound healing in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (skin-brain axis). However, my optimism was shattered when I was given a notice that my position will become unavailable after 2 months due to funding constraints. To say I am devastated is an understatement, as my family and I are confronted with the anxious prosppect of unemployment and having to leave the USA abruptly, curtailing my young career I dream of building here. In this time of immense trial, I am soliciting any form of assistance, job opportunities related to wound healing, tissue engineering, cell therapy, pharmacology, vascular biology or any related field, advise, comment for reach or help in any other form from my linkedin netwok, knowing that all is not lost yet, and that a glimmer of hope still exists. I obtained my Ph.D. in molecular science and nanotechnology from Louisiana Tech University. I hold a masters degree in nanotechnology from the same university and a second master's degree in Biochemmistry with a specialty in molecular pharmacology. My past research endeavors have focused on the use of polymers and peptides for bioengineering purposes. I have also developed other soft and transferrable skills through high impact epigenetic and cardiovascular research work from my previous experiences, evidenced by my peer reviewed publications and 500+ citations. I am a quick-to-learn/teachable early carer scientist and a practical problem solver. PhD portraits : today Théo Le Berre, 2nd year PhD student at Laboratoire Ampère "I'm working on the design of medical devices dedicated to the treatment of some cancers. The aim is to manufacture a tool for applying pulsed electric fields on tumors. These can be used to render tumor tissue sensitive, thereby enhancing the local effect of chemotherapy treatment. I manufacture the prototypes, model the resulting field and finally carry out in-vitro tests on cell aggregates called spheroids. This thesis is funded by a ministerial grant and is in collaboration with AP-HP, Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris). It participates in various funded projects (Carnot Ingénierie@Lyon, ITMO Cancer of Aviesan...) and has also obtained financial support from the CNRS through the MITI interdisciplinary programs. I carry out my PhD between the AMPERE laboratory and the LGEF (electrical engineering and ferroelectricity laboratory), under the supervision of Marie Frénéa-Robin and Julien Marchalot from the Ampère laboratory and Guilhem Rival from the LGEF.   After a preparatory class in Caen, I graduated from the Ecole Centrale Lille with a specialization in "Intelligent systems and advanced communication networks". In parallel with my final year at Centrale, I also followed a Master's degree in communicating systems at the University of Lille.  After completing my end-of-study internship at the Ampère laboratory, I first started working as an engineer for a year, then went on to do a PhD. In this thesis, I appreciate the multiphysics aspect, as well as the fact that the device is designed from start to finish for concrete applications in the healthcare field.
