The skyrocketing evictions occurring nationwide are having an impact on people and their beloved pets. Overflowing animal shelters have also become a national crisis. The dip in adoptions along with the rise in dog intake from unclaimed strays and owner surrenders is a complete 180 from the surge in adoptions of dogs and cats we saw during the pandemic. According to Shelter Animals Count (SAC), stray dogs taken in by shelters have risen 6% in the January to November 2023 period compared to 2022 and are up a whopping 22% since 2021! Well said Jim Davnie and Kent Pekel. With a focus on solutions, Family Engagement, Positive School Climate/Multi-tiered Systems of support, Data-Driven Early Warning Systems, Increased Caring Adults and Mentors, we are addressing the root causes instead of solely placing the blame on the student and/or their families. According to the MN Student Survey data, 25% of 11th grade students, 28% of 9th grade students, 32% of 8th grade students, and 54% of 5th grade students in MN say "adults in my community care quite a bit/very much about me". Flip the language and say out loud the % of students who feel adults don't care about them. This is why our community efforts to listen to and come alongside our young people is so important. Our young folks need multiple layers of support and this isn't only the school's responsibility. We continue our efforts to open a youth center in our small rural community for this very reason; our youth have told us what they need! Why are so many school kids not showing up for class? What's keeping them out of school and what's the impact? Listen to this conversation on Minnesota Public Radio about chronic absenteeism and what can be done to boost school attendance. Walking through life with our armor on...all of us do from such an early age. Imagine society...our neighborhoods, schools, public spaces, libraries, gardens, creeks and roadways... All designed with the intention of make life more peaceful, vibrations of inspiration allowing us all to live a life without the armor...without the fear songs and the beating and clanking that comes along. Designing again for solutions and not solely for market competition? Imagine a World...where we design solutions as community coalitions...initiated and executed together...not asking for permission from the top down systems. Can we drop the rules of competition and start connecting our bridges together? I believe we can. In my second week of the Cabin co-hort, the mentors are inspiring and the fellow stewards also move with faith that we can. <3 Check out https://cabin.city To building new communities, one neighborhood at a time. <3

While many children throughout the country welcome to start of summer, for millions of families, summer can mean additional hardship. 14 million U.S. children -- one in five -- live in households that struggle against hunger, and we know that child hunger soars during the summer when traditional school meals are unavailable. As our Countdown to Summer giving campaign comes to an end, will you help Hunger Free America connect families in need with food? https://lnkd.in/e929GSXK

Working Genius Invention & Discernment Leveraging strategies to enhance parish communities across the US Ideation | Strategic | Achiever Change Style: Originator
No shoes is a dress code I love. Putting socks and dress shoes on, being back on the road in Texas was recharging. Spending time with parishes and diocese leaders in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Austin and Waco planning strategies to enhance their impact on souls reignites my passion for why we support the Church.. and do what we do everyday. God has placed each of us in this sector at this particular time for a reason. Helping priests and parish leaders overcome the scarcity mindset that plagues religious organizations. Priests aren't necessarily discerned for fundraising and philanthropy. Parish budgets aren't usually able to support the skill set necessary to design, implement and analyze outreach strategies. Having to leave the comfort of home office dress code (yes never wearing socks or shoes is the best) and hit the airport, car rental facility, gas station beverage center and local groceries in hopes to encourage one parish to take one step forward for the future of their community is a blessing each of us have. Looking forward to some more windshield time soon in Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth. #catholicstewardship #growthmindset #onpurposeforthefuture

This summer, kids 18 and under can eat for free at 14 library locations. Starting June 18, lunch will be served Tuesdays through Fridays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (except on Juneteenth and Independence Day) Last year, the library served 11,421 lunches to kids throughout Sacramento County. During the summer, 88% of kids who get meals at school don’t have access over summer break. Lunch at the Library supports food equity in our community with meal sites within our neighborhoods. Learn more at saclibrary.org/lunch.
