Did you know that food choice is a huge focus for mobile farmers' markets? Many mobile markets we work with seek the feedback of their customers to determine what kind of food is carried. Founder & CEO at Breedr: Improving sustainability of global beef supply chains across USA, UK and Australia
As the Breedr team is heading to Cattle Con National Cattlemen's Beef Association this week it seems a good time to reflect on the last 18 months; moving the family from the UK to Texas, working with some of the most exciting supply chains in the industry, and sadly losing my dad at 91 last Easter. It was my father Guy Wheal who inspired me to build Breedr; a company that at its heart supports ranchers and the meat supply chain to produce better beef more efficiently, using data to prove the enhanced quality. My dad always said that you make your own luck through hard work, being good to others and learning from your mistakes. We built Breedr to support and empower ranchers, cow calf, beef on dairy, backgrounders, feedyards, packers and even retailers to produce exceptional beef in a sustainable, life-enriching way. So to the Pioneers of American Beef who have for centuries innovated to build new businesses; thank you for your support on our journey in the US. Special thanks to those that we have met and got know along the way, Mike De Groot, TD Beef, Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB), HerdDogg, Inc. Lamar Steiger Carl Steiger Andrew Uden JAKE TULS, Todd Kranz, Chuck Stokke, Michael Ballou, Rob Schultz, Rob Trice, George Easley, Kieran Francis, CFA many others I haven't mentioned. As we move toward our 3 rd year in the US we are starting to open Breedr up to broader group of ranches. If you are interested in building or joining a smart beef supply chain - or just tracking genetics and carcass performance - please come see us at NCBA in Orlando next week. The team and I will be at booth #1327, it would be great to say hi. #Beef #Cattle #feedyards #packers #BreedrLaunch #SmartBeef #supplychains #agtech #CattleProduction #sustainablebeef #innovation

Cash cow or cash cattle? No doubt it’s very endearing and satisfying to have Bessy as a part of your household, and to tend to her, feed and care for her, and in return get milk. But what would you do if the demand for milk at home quadrupled overnight, with even more unexpected changes is all but promised in the near future? Get another cow and call her Bertha? Or two more? How many individually cared-for, named cows can you handle and still survive? The only way out of this quandary, and for maintaining production that meets the need is to start treating the cows as cattle - entities whose size and criticality on an individual basis is not very high, but they deliver the desired outcome as a group. Doing so would not only meet the fast changing needs for capacity via easier scaling up or down, but also provide resiliency where one tipped cow won’t bring the entire dairy production to a halt. And yes, this post is about compute workload #virtualization 😁

75% of battleground state voters say they’re stressed about rising food prices, and Prop 12 will only exacerbate an already bad situation as farmers are forced to raise prices to meet costs. Voters across America simply don’t want Prop 12 to continue. Recent polling shows that a majority of swing state voters want Congress to prohibit California and other individual states from setting nationwide farm animal standards. It’s time to #FixProp12. In today’s Factual Friday, I'm going to keep it brief and talk about beef. On our farm, we sell beef by the quarter, half, and whole share, and one of the most common questions we receive is, “how much meat will I get back?” That’s always a tough question to answer because it depends on a lot of different variables. How big is the cow? This, itself, is kind of a loaded question. How old was the animal when it was slaughtered? What breed (an Angus will generally produce more meat than a Jersey, as an example)? How did it hold its weight? Check out the details in the latest post: https://lnkd.in/eC-kCJFM
