After moving to Chicago, she started her journey with us at Crosby's Kitchen in Southport, where she quickly fell in love with the hospitality industry. In 2022, Allison made the move to Smoke Daddy Wrigleyville, where she continues to excel as a server and a supportive colleague. 🙌Our 2024 seasonal kickoff meeting was a HUGE success! 💯A few key takeaways… ✅I’m extremely transparent. With our gross and net numbers, successes and missed opportunities, and performance. ✅We had 6 new employees and this kickoff meeting, and I’m so incredibly proud of my team for welcoming them the way they did. ✅The leadership I saw from my guys blew me away. We had guys stepping up, and basically cutting me off, to train the new guys. Am I offended? NO. I’m so incredibly proud to have a bunch of LEADERS on my team. ✅We discussed safety. When asked whether I want the medium or large pizza, I always go big. When buying a new TV the same bias plays out (could a tv be too big?). I’ve been conditioned to believe that big is always better. As my career progressed, I found that the closer my roles took me towards the corporate headquarters the greater the burdens of bureaucracy and egos. I remember fondly the peace that I felt during my Disney Cruise Line days, when I was on board the ship deep in the Caribbean. When I joined the Disneyland team the moat around my castle consisted of the traffic congestion from Burbank to Anaheim. That wasn’t quite the defense that I had hoped for because the people senior to me all had drivers. To be fair, it was a small contingent seeking a photo op that would spoil my mood; others were strong supporters of what we were doing. Such is the reality in the world of large corporations. There is no denying that what I learned at Disney was invaluable and prepared me for life outside the kingdom, but there came a time to move on. When I joined Cedar Fair (now Six Flags….) I knew my world was going to be different in a lot of ways. Cedar Fair’s valuation was a fraction of Disney’s and lacked the wealth of resources that Disney could bring to bear. At Disney, the brand was front-and-center in every conversation. Cedar Fair didn’t have a consumer brand, it relied on the consumer loyalty to the individual parks. There is a much longer list of what my new employer didn’t have, but fortunately that included the absence of the bureaucratic burdens I mentioned above. As the CEO of Cedar Fair, I found a freedom that just isn’t available in large corporations. The team I inherited was as talented as those I worked with in Orlando and Anaheim. They didn’t have experience dealing with the scale of the larger parks, but the breadth of their individual responsibilities was greater – it had to be, there were a lot fewer of them. Every one of the senior team reported directly to me, there were no double-dotted-lines or confused loyalties. Cedar Fair will never have the level of resources that exist at a Disney or Universal. Where it shines over those giants is the productivity of each member of the team. Fewer people, means fewer layers, means fewer meetings, means more empowerment, means more accountability and arguably more fun. A small group of us made the decisions, tasked the operators to bring those decisions to life and lived with the consequences. No one competed for the credit when things went well, we were all in it together. I still believe bigger is always better when it comes to pizzas and tv’s, but at least for one chapter of my career, less was more. P.S. Whether you are in a big company, or a smaller one always ask yourself are you still learning? Are you gaining skills and making yourself more valuable? Adding tools to your toolbox is the key to moving forward.

Great insight on the trade-offs between large corporations and smaller teams. It's true that fewer layers can lead to more empowerment and ownership, which often drives greater productivity. In my experience, the most rewarding environments are those where every team member has a direct impact

The recent Burger King Halloween/Joker/Blackface controversy is a clear reminder: without diversity on teams, cultural awareness falls through the cracks. I came across a comment saying "People of color are tired of calling this stuff out; it's not our job," and while I get the frustration, I have to disagree. I can’t expect my coworkers to be fully aware of my culture, just like I won’t know everything about theirs. It’s on all of us to speak up and educate each other when something’s off. That’s how we grow and actually move forward together. If we can’t connect on this level, are we really working as a team, or just getting things done in isolation?

I always enjoy my morning commute to school with my 11 year old and 15 year old daughters, Charlotte & Maggie (pictured). They were stressed this am (Finals week at school). We woke up early so they could get their favorite Starbucks Refreshers and my morning wisdom to them was "Life is about enjoying the ride not just the achievement or outcome". We've all heard this old adage: "Enjoy the ride" or the "Present is a gift". Applying this to what we (Service Council™) talk about: #digitaltransformation, #fieldservice, #changemanagement, I started to think about what would make what is often a negative/difficult experience fun? Here are a couple things: 1. Involve your A team & stay humble: from leadership to middle mgmt to frontline (#fieldserviceengineer), everyone down the line has an oppty to learn and establish a new relationship or level of respect with/for a colleague. 2. Be present: stay involved from concept > tear down > rebuild > celebration. Jim Bohn, Ph.D talks about being an "Architect of Change" who is present for all these phases. 3. Celebrate achievement & levity: allow for levity and your team to play "loose" and communicate these celebratory moments often. Maggie and Charlotte sent me this picture after our ride to school. Glad they are playing loose today! I'm confident the results will follow...

When we envisioned the idea of F&O Masterclass under the banner of CNBC_Awaaz, it seemed to be a very daunting task as a team to put together something that none of us had ever done before. But the phenomenal success story that has been crafted with the completion of Season 2 now, has been nothing short of a miracle! However, miracles don't happen! 🙄 This wouldn't have been possible without the incredible #teamwork, cross-functional #collaboration, and unwavering dedication of the entire team. From the initial #brainstorming sessions to the flawless execution, all of us from completely different functions came together seamlessly. We leveraged our own unique #strengths, creating a synergy that powered us to unprecedented heights. The spirit of collaboration is truly what sets a team apart and fuels success. It's also a testament of the amazing culture of an organization, where support, open communication, and a shared vision are the cornerstones of everything that is done! ✨ I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved together.
