50strong’s Post

"...When you invest on the front-end and get to know each veteran, not just their majors but the individual, I truly believe that leads to better EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES." This was our conversation recently with Mike Brown at Villanova University. What are some of the ways Mike does this? 1. Professional Development: Mike coordinates professional development and networking trips every year for 15-20 student veterans, giving them the opportunity to meet directly with employers, C-suite alumni, and community leaders. 2. Internal focus on student veteran #Internships: In partnership with local industry partners and the College of Engineering, 5 internship roles were created specifically for student veterans, exposing them to real hands-on research experience in addition to living stipends. 3. Collaboration with 50strong: Mike is a huge advocate for veteran employment, and works tirelessly in outreach efforts to his military-affiliated students, including highlighting the importance of talking with military ready companies through 50strong EmployerConnect events. We want to thank Mike for all his continued efforts and his advocacy of Student Veterans! #VeteranEmployment includes #StudentVeterans.

Kandi Tillman, Chantal DeWall and Kate Wood, thank you for your tireless efforts on this front. Outcomes matter for all of us. When veterans find meaningful employment, it leads to better outcomes for our communities and our country. I love the collaboration and I’m proud to continue our partnership!

another story Mike Brown shared with me during one of our convos: whenever he travels for work, he makes a point to engage w/ any alumni in the area to share about what they are doing for current student. Alumni (IMHO) are an often under-utilized group and I love to see Villanova Vets leaning in on this!!!
