As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the concept of being present—not just in meetings or with my team, but in the broader, virtual world where so many of us connect.
One of my small but meaningful goals for this year is to actively respond to those LinkedIn reach-outs. I know how easy it is to dismiss a message as “just another sales pitch,” but behind every outreach is someone simply trying to make a living, share an idea, or create an opportunity.
Responding isn’t just about politeness—it’s about recognizing the human effort behind every message. As a former Global CHRO, I’ve seen how the smallest gestures can create the most significant impact. A response, even if it’s brief, can build a bridge, inspire confidence, or open a door down the road.
So, in 2025, I’m committing to staying present in this space—listening, learning, and, most importantly, engaging. Because presence isn’t just about being available; it’s about showing up with intention and thoughtfulness.

I laughed, I sobbed, I clicked, I connected and felt energised, inspired, and then exhausted and foot sore 😂
That’s a little bit of what you get at an L&D 3.0 meet up!
I so wish I had this earlier in my career. I wish I had a way to sense check my gut, the flags, the BS, recognise how brilliant I am, explore ways to create more impact and a make a bigger contribution.
I know it would have helped me grow but also the business I worked in more. It would have interrupted and disrupted the times when you could get drawn into reactive mode or being overly tactical.
I wish I could have tapped into a network and community that I felt I belonged in, and helped me unlock the next level. It would have been so valuable to be able to get insight, and discuss and learn from other people across the sector trying to solve the same problems as me.
Yesterday’s meet-up focussed on becoming better aligned with the board and recruitment agency stakeholders.

A hugely insight keynote from Katie Dowling on how to align with board and stakeholders, and move the needle for the business.
The big take away - L&D can support your business and it’s success when they are closer to understanding board conversations and priorities. Without this they will be reacting to a list of requests, be busy creating L&D products and probably directing their energy to more training courses.
Instead, you want them designing interventions and solving for your business priorities. You want them moving the needle? Show them where the needle is and where it needs to point to.
The awesome Michelle Flynn did her magic and led us through some breathwork (that’s when I had a bit of a sob, I was not expecting that! But the gladiators music might have nudged me over the edge)
