Sales Director - GIACOMINI UK & IRL Leading our sales team & supporting MEP Contractors & Consulting Engineers in delivering effective, sustainable, data driven hydronic, HVAC solutions.
When it rains it pours… We have now had a solid 12 hours of rain, had to swap a boat trip for a wine tasting tour that ironically we needed a boat for! Yesterday was all about the business, technical presentations, factory tour and time in our academy. The hospitality and organisation shown by our colleagues at Giacomini HQ was truly exceptional. Today we make more memories with our customers and birthday boy Andy Pennells at the Enrico CROLA wine reserve for brunch and wine tasting. Other than the weather we couldn’t ask for more. Stay tuned for more.

In the UK a program by Distill Ventures & Be Inclusive Hospitality to host a "Meet the Buyer" event at a London location TBD on JUNE 21st FRIDAY, 2024 from 12-5pm local time. This program is to help ethnically diverse & underrepresented drink brands get in front of UK retail buyers & distributors. Hope they do this in the US and see link below to see if you qualify to attend. And now my diatribe: As a small and minority owned company myself, similarly understand the challenges with trying to work with the big on and off premise retailers and hospitality groups. Many chains while looking for minority and woman owned brands to bring in, many do NOT extend their diversity/inclusion programs toward distributors where in the US, probably less than 5% of food & beverage distributors that supply the major retail and hospitality groups are minority or woman owned. FYI, I couldn't find any statistics on this and more than likely none exist and just going off my over 25yrs in CPG--if some one knows of this stat, I'd be curious to what it is. Often times if a brand that is minority/woman owned or not does get into a major retail chain or hospitality group, it is not uncommon for the brand to be told to work with one of the large regional or national food service distributors that the retailer/hospitality group already works with as trying to onboard a one-three SKU company involves a lot of effort. The issue is that many of these food service distributors can be difficult and down right disastrous to work with. Its not uncommon for a brand to actually OWE the distributor money due to various tactics they employ like chargebacks, forced promotional spend, portal fees & other "charges" to work with them. Unfortunately, many small brands have been burned by working with these food service distributors so their foray into a mass chain or hospitality group early on seemed like a blessing, it can turn out to be a curse. FYI the topic of the pitfalls or working with a food service distributor is a full topic by itself & at some point I'll expound on this on another post. Any case while I'm biased of course, but I also feel distributor diversity is just as important as brand/product diversity as distribution is still the "gate keeper" & "choke point" in how brands get on the shelf. https://lnkd.in/eHumPuPm

💼 A business trip that changed everything 🔆 What started as a straightforward evaluation of a company’s expansion strategy became a journey of purpose, passion, and profit—a journey that led to the creation of Black Bear Wines. It began with a company seeking my advisory services. Their mission: to bring Armagnac, a premium Armenian spirit, into the U.S. market. While already in the region, I made a quick detour to France to validate their claims and understand the product firsthand. What was supposed to be a routine business practice turned into a transformative experience. The vineyards, the craftsmanship, the meticulous attention to detail—it captivated me. But something else grabbed my focus: the pricing model. Watching how value increased as the product moved closer to the end consumer in America was a revelation. That’s when it struck me. This wasn’t just about helping one company expand. It was an opportunity to create something bigger. That detour in France became the spark for Black Bear Wines. Today, we import premium wines—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—and beers from around the world, delivering them straight to customers across the U.S. But more than that, we’ve built a brand that solves problems: 🍇Giving customers direct access to their favorite wines and beers. 🍇Providing businesses with custom white-label options to create branded gifts that leave lasting impressions. Along the way, I’ve discovered something even more profound: the power of human connection. Through this journey, I’ve formed incredible friendships, engaged in deep conversations, shared unforgettable meals, and yes—enjoyed some of the most remarkable wines. And it all comes down to one belief: purpose and profit can, and should, go hand in hand. At Black Bear Wines, we don’t just sell products; we celebrate moments. Now, I want to ask you: 🍷What do you celebrate with wine? What stories are poured into the glass at your table? Because together, we’re building more than a company—we’re building a world where shared purpose drives meaningful change. Ready to celebrate with us? Visit BlackBearWines Co. to explore our collections, join our wine club, or collaborate with us for custom branding. P.S. If you could pick one country’s wine to have on your table, what would it be? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
