Shaken or stirred, but financially sound? As someone who used to work in the drinks industry, I’ve always been interested in the economics of the trade. As a data guy, I’m also a sucker for good visual representations of information. Vinepair recently published a fascinating look into the profitability of the classic Martini across five bars in New York City, Charleston, LA, Phoenix and Chicago. It gives a cost breakdown of the cocktail in each venue. The most surprising aspect for me is how little profit most of the bars make on a Martini, especially given the high cost of the cocktail in the first place.
