Not stopping when everybody has one smartphone. ✔ The profound collaborations across academia, industry, and government with a long-term perspective. More important today than a decade ago. ✔ International collaborations to advance complex challenges like spectrum harmonization and interoperable standards. Challenged by geopolitics and conflicting interests. Looking forward to day 2 of the UCL - Patents in Telecoms & the Internet of Things conference (quite the title). Day 1 was very interesting with some fantastic speakers and contributions from the audience (practitioners and judges). It is fair to say the day one hot topic was the proposed EU SEP Regulation which took quite a bashing. The takeaways seem to range from “if the system ain’t broke, don’t fix it” through to some attendees agreeing that something needs to change but the Regulation is not it. It is a shame that these events are not more heavily attended by those pushing/drafting the Regulation, but we have to hope the voices are being listened to. Let’s see what day 2 holds. #patents #telecoms #FRAND #CMS

Global 6G standardization work has officially entered the substantive stage, with Chinese companies taking the lead for the first time

3GPP Stage-1 Workshop on IMT2030 Use Cases is running May 8th-10th; is bringing 3GPP closer to the initiatives of regional/global research organizations, the market partners (MRPs), the operators’ associations and ITU as 3GPP WG SA1 undertakes the task of defining the 6G requirements and use cases. This is an important international discussion on 6G usecases gathering international standardisation bodies, telco equipement providers, operators, service providers and users. https://lnkd.in/eiTFT_q6
