Champva is free and easier to access care where Tricare costs abd brings a host of challenges. And most importantly Seeing a military or VA provider is optimal because they are trained and observe specific war related illness and injury. These providers unlike civilians can identify clusters and links to military service which inherently helps gain service connected compensation and research funding for better outcomes. Retirement is not worth the risk as benefits keep getting stripped from those who made the commitment. Give my husband and others like him concurrent retirement pay with his VA compensation, it’s not his fault war took away half his career. #concurrentreceipt #restoreretireebenefits #dontgiveourbenefitsaway #militarymedicinematters #supportactitveduty #supportmilfam #supportretirees #restoremilitarymedicine

This NPR story is an 8-minute audio listen or you can read it with links to related stories. Here are my highlights: Army healthcare has three missions: (1) A "medically ready force" means keeping the country's army in good health. (2) A "ready medical force" means training up enough doctors and nurses to keep that army healthy and treat the wounds of war. (3) Taking care of all the military family members that accompany that Army. That third point has been strategically outsourced to move volume away from military treatment facilities and into the community. Health systems are expensive for the DoD to operate but this results in fewer opportunities for practitioners to learn from case variety while burdening community providers who don't have capacity. Meanwhile, this strategy is buttressed by a difficult and unaccepted insurance plan. #military #healthcare #TRICARE #DHA #pentagon Thank goodness for high-quality providers like Reliant Medical Group that have been taking my Tricare plan for a long time otherwise my family would be screwed.

New patient appointments are up 11% nationwide, which is great news for veterans seeking medical care. However, the average wait time for VA Mental Health services within a 50 mile radius of Boston is 26.75 days. This raises the question: what is wrong with this picture? To make matters worse, a proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Plan includes cutting 10,000 medical positions. As we strive to improve access to care for our veterans, it's important to consider the impact of these cuts on their health and well-being. We must continue to advocate for adequate resources and staffing to ensure that our veterans receive the care they deserve. Hope Monday is treating everyone well! Curious about Army Medicine? I often get asked what it's like being a Nurse, Physician, or Surgeon in this field. Contrary to popular belief, it's not like what you see in Hollywood movies. In Army Medicine, there are numerous Hospitals, Dental clinics, and veterinary facilities where dedicated medical staff work tirelessly. From Nurses on shift work to Surgeons performing miracles, the focus remains on providing top-notch care to Service members and their families. With over a decade of experience in Army Medicine, the key difference I've noticed is the unwavering focus on serving Service members and their families without the pressure of meeting civilian sector benchmarks. Army Medicine is all about providing exceptional care to those who serve our country. #ArmyMedicine #MilitaryHealthcare #HealthcareHeroes

Veterans have made great sacrifices for our country, and they deserve the best possible medical care and benefits. That's why veterans advocates are urging for a substantial increase in funding for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) next year. The White House has proposed a record-breaking budget of $270 billion for the department next year, with a focus on medical care. However, increased funding is necessary to address shortages of mental health care professionals and meet the rising demand for dental care and long-term care. The Independent Budget report emphasizes the need for continued investment in VA programs to ensure uninterrupted care and benefits for veterans and their families. Let's support our veterans by advocating for adequate VA funding. #Veterans #VAfunding #SupportOurVeterans #MedicalCare #MentalHealthCare

#TBT – Did you know? On this week, four years ago, the 250,000 square-foot Miami Beach Convention Center was converted into a 450-bed field hospital, including 400 acute care patient rooms, 50 isolation pods, nursing stations, an onsite laboratory and pharmacy, and support areas… in less than two weeks! The project was part of the US Army Corps of Engineers' effort to alleviate pressure on local hospitals from the anticipated surges of COVID-19 patients. By calling on years of healthcare planning and design experience, utilizing an accelerated design-build process, and relying on expedited supply efforts, this project was completed more than a full day ahead of schedule. To learn more about how the design-build team of Robins & Morton and RLF worked together to pull off this incredible transformation, click https://bit.ly/3U2x8Is #TBT #ConventionCenterConversion #COVIDReliefEfforts #DesignBuildChallenge #HealthcareHeroes #Teamwork #HealthcareArchitects #RLFaei

This is going to be absolutely seminal for the deployment of #immersive #technology in health. « Crucial to further scaling the use of immersive technology, VA has developed standardized resources, such as knowledge networks, #implementation plans, electronic health record templates, and standard operating procedures. » I have seen this before: they are the building blocks, recipe and methods that #VA developed and perfected to deploy #remote patient #monitoring at scale in routine care, more than a decade ago. Everything we learned from #RPM implementation at VA is at the foundation here, and taken to the next level. All necessary but not sufficient conditions - sine qua non - for implementation and #scaling. And no viability without scale. « Assumptions about the cost of implementation often focus on hardware, when in fact, much of the expense relates to content development and acquisition ». « Finally, and importantly, is the evolution of #data needed to evaluate the impact of experiences continuously and rigorously within the devices. (…) Continued efforts are underway to build and automate ingestion of objective data available through immersive systems and integrate them with patient records. » - The decades of VA investments in a comprehensive, longitudinal health records system that works across settings make this possible and pay off. As we chatted with a friend this week, who is super well-versed in immersive technology development and implementation at scale (you know who you are): it’s not about the tech. It’s mostly about the people and everything else BUT the tech. Most impressive, is how it changes culture. Once you build that muscle, you’re ready for the next thing. I am really glad that Anne Lord Bailey, PharmD, BCPS et al. put this down on paper to share with the rest of us. Thank you for sharing Sandhya C. Rao .
