To better understand the women in our lives, here are five things men can do: 1. Listen Without Fixing: Women often seek emotional validation, not solutions. Practice active listening and focus on understanding, not immediately offering advice. 2. Be Open to Vulnerability: Deep emotional connection requires mutual vulnerability. Sharing your emotions helps build trust and invites more meaningful conversations. 3. Recognize Emotional Labor: Women often carry the invisible burden of managing relationships and emotional well-being. Acknowledge and share in this responsibility. 4. Pay Attention to Nonverbal Cues: Women often communicate through subtle body language and tone. Learning to read these cues can deepen understanding beyond just words. 5. Challenge Gender Stereotypes: Question traditional roles and assumptions about masculinity. Embrace flexibility and compassion to connect more authentically. I love this matrix from FW (Future Women). Many of us (myself included, when I'm in my own head) hold ourselves to a different standard than we would other colleagues, expecting perfect outcomes every time. When I make an error, the question I try to ask myself is "will this matter in 20 years' time?". Nine times out of ten it won't. Future Women helped me and many other women by helping us maintain and build connections during and post-Covid isolation and providing so many valuable learning and development opportunities to benefit current and emerging professional women.
