🗞️ Following the landmark prohibition of non-compete agreements, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has encountered numerous legal complaints. Sam Bojarski of Citywire RIA speaks with experts to get their take on this recent move, and the associated lawsuits. Jonathan Foster of Angeles Wealth Management, the private wealth division of Angeles Investments, stands in support of the non-compete ban. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted 3-2, along party lines, to ban most new non-compete agreements and invalidate existing non-compete agreements. The new rule is scheduled to take effect in August – but lawsuits challenging this ban will be coming soon to a courthouse near you! Legal Update: FTC's Noncompete Ban in Limbo 🚨 Multiple litigations concerning the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)’s ban on noncompete agreements are progressing. 🏛️ On July 3, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas granted a preliminary injunction in Ryan LLC v. FTC, temporarily halting enforcement of the noncompete ban against the plaintiffs and certain plaintiff intervenors, but declining to extend a nationwide injunction for the benefit of non-parties. The court in Texas promised a final ruling by Aug. 30, and the ban is otherwise set to take effect nationwide on Sept. 4, 2024.
