EYE IS AN OBJECT OF ARCHITECTURE. WHY? Eye is crucial for visual interpretation. It is a complex system that converts light into images and colours. Without it, we would not be able to perceived images in our mind. Eyes enabled us to appreciate the beauty of nature and capable of producing art the way we interpreted it. For example, Black has different shades. We are able to differentiate the blackest of black and the lightest of the black. From this, we could use different types of colour to picture emotion and feeling such as love often portrayed with pink and sadness with blue. In term of architectural, Red is often for warnings or for awareness. With eyes, we would be able to design art. People with vision disability do not able to recreate images into design yet alone to think of other than their other working body senses such as touch, smell and hear. We should be grateful and help those in needs to design spaces and facilities that could help them. Furthermore, Architecture is a way of producing arts to accommodate people and help them living their daily activities better while maintaining the art. Architecture is an art everyone to live in a better way including animals. Architecture is not only to design building, but observing the issues and to design the solution for better or proper way of living, Therefore, without eyes, we would not be able to detect what are the issues that are lacking for everyone to live in a better environment. #ARCHITECTURE #SCHOOLWORK #PERCEPTION

I am a huge fan of ”neuroarchitecture” and would like to have a scientific explanation of all phenomena and have even made my own mapping of various expressions, but… I think it leads very often to generic solutions: biophilia meaning green walls and plants, soft forms, soft materials, “meditative” spaces with wood, natural tones, diffused light etc. Repeat… Great development, anyway, compared to how bad and ugly architecture can potentially be, but than one expression is evidence-based doesn’t mean it has to be used alone, in a kind of ”staging with what research says”, forgetting about the rest of artistic value, architectural qualities which have been developed by former behavioural studies, by the continuous architectural heritage and… by own joy of creation. Why do I feel like I’m stuck in “styles” and “ready solutions” again?. It stroke me: “When was I 7-8 years ago when the exploration of conscious and evidence-based design really gave me such a joy?”. I was on a parental leave, exploring the space with my kids! Thinking about experience more holistically and using more perspective than only what there is evidence for. Apart from watching and helping the kids build new shelter each day, I was, eg: 1. Throwing some colour into water stains 2. Marvelling at how peas have been beautifully scattered all over the table 3. Photographing ink dropping into water 4. Wondering how snow can look sooooo tasty 5. Designing a room through which the weather can pass by 6. Colouring snow and making a mosaic out of it 7. Making sound absorbing panel out of what I found in the garden 8. Creating a moodboard of the Swedish winter 9. Dreaming of a home where I could jump on and between boxes of various sizes, materials and hanging on various levels That said, how can we take care of personal, artistic, exploratory, experimental richness which can use the whole potential of human senses as well as cognitive mechanisms? #neurodesign #neuroarchitecture #art #architecture #design #psychology #wellbeing

Today on Federal Hill Photography, LLC: . Eastern High School/Samuel Gompers Vocational High School at the corner of Broadway and North Ave. Built 1905 - 1906, it’s one of the city's first progressive education era schools. Progressive education stressed experiential learning over rote memorization and application of knowledge to solve real world problems. Previously, Baltimore had repurposed existing buildings or rented warehouses for education. In contrast, Eastern High School's purpose built design by Otto C. Simonson and Theodore Wells Pietsch specified large, well ventilated and lit classrooms, labs, and art studios around a central auditorium and gym. And in the aftermath of the 1904 Great Baltimore Fire, the design prioritized fire proofing and quick egress. Also, I discovered the building was to have a rooftop garden but couldn't find if it was ever installed. The building's architecture is a classical design, popular at that time. The center section, with its triangular shape below the roof, 3 large columns, and decorative dentition evoke a Roman temple. Decorative pilasters at each end frame granite slabs engraved with the names of those associated with building construction. The building is highly symmetrical, square, and evokes solidity and permanence. The building remained in use as a school until 1981. In 1986 it was converted into Ashley Apartments, but was closed in 1997 when the owners defaulted on HUD loans. The city purchased the building for $1 and it has remained unused since. . In 2023, I completed a Summer School project in Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art, which led to ~Cat-ography~ web project. Have you ever thought about what your home might look like from the perspective of a plant, a spider, or another species? We usually see artificial spaces through a human-centered lens, evaluating architecture and public spaces based on our own convenience. But it’s worth remembering that we’re only one species among many. Even if we don’t always notice, we share our spaces with countless other beings. ~Cat-ography~ explores a fresh approach to map-making. Traditionally, maps are created with a human-centric view, focusing on structures that are significant to us while ignoring hidden niches, side spaces, and underground areas. To explore the world of Art and Conceptional Design, I want to highlight the Art of visual conceptional design that lingers on in the minds of Architects. Giving one of my recent projects as an example: I had the pleasure of creating a conceptional space highlighting the activities that took place in a school I designed. The community space is a space for Art, dance, music, and social interaction, describing the overall language of the space. The skill is to envision a space before it takes physical form. It's about seeing beyond construction drawings and blueprints, allowing the space to tell a story . It's about imagining the activities that will unfold, sensing the emotions that will be experienced, and understanding how individuals perceive and interact with the space. Lloyd Alter writes: “A look at Tye Farrow's extraordinary new book, Constructing Health. He is the heir to one of my architectural heroes, Richard Neutra. I interviewed Tye for Treehugger for one of my last posts on Treehugger and put the recording on YouTube. I wrote at the time, “Spending an hour listening to Farrow was an extraordinary experience.” Reading his book is also an extraordinary experience. It is packed with so much information, so much research, and it is written so well. Then he goes and takes these concepts to design extraordinary buildings, mostly for education and health care. Farrow quotes Richard Neutra in the book, and in many ways, he is heir to him. Neutra worked mainly in steel and concrete, unusual and innovative materials at the time. Esther McCoy wrote in Richard Neutra for the Masters of World Architecture series: “Neutra took nothing for granted, but reexamined every building practice; no member or detail or material escaped his scrutiny. His buildings of the twenties and early thirties brought into the folds of architecture various elements that would never again be alien.” Farrow is doing similar wonders with wood, turning it into sculptural forms, “connecting the dots between mind, environment and performance.” Neutra was perhaps ahead of his time; We know much more about how our psychosomatic organism ticks. Tye Farrow has given us a marvellous mental tool chest full of information, ideas, and inspiration. This Grace Story describes the unorthodox means by which we have been Designering our porch refurbish. We must never forget that we are engaged in creating a miracle. Grace: Designering "We approximately understand what we're doing …" Design, like almost everything, seems different in theory than it does in practice. In theory, Design must be complete before construction begins. Practice finds considerable overlap. We might diligently try to fully flesh out aspirations beforehand, but our context shifts once we start moving dirt. We often cannot foresee what will become evident after we've exposed rafters and taken down walls. More than fine-tuning occurs regardless of how complete the design seemed during preliminary discussions. The contractor holds more responsibility than they'd ever willingly contract to deliver and always have. They're most likely to notice the small incongruences that could explode into disaster. They're the ones present to see the plan's emerging incompleteness. They're the ones tacitly charged with continually asking the most uncomfortable questions. Spontaneously mustered conferences are called. Jesse, the structural guy who will perform the follow-on effort, held clues for the foundation builders and vice-versa. ...
