The Life of an Architect. "The genius behind world's most famous buildings" by Renzo Piano's TED Talk (Cover) Intro | Lectures Revisited Full Speech: https://lnkd.in/gExzMDBR Hello and welcome to another edition of Lectures Revisited, where I, a stutterer, practice my speech by saying my favorite speeches of all time. Today's speech is a little bit different because it's not by a famous speaker, but by a famous architect, Renzo Piano. It is his TED talk, and one of my personal favorite TED talks. Let's begin. "Architecture is amazing for sure. It's amazing because it is art. But you know, it is a very funny kind of art. It's an art of the frontier between art and science. It's fed by real life every day. It's driven by the force of necessity. Quite amazing, quite amazing. And the life of an architect is also amazing. You know, as an architect, at 10:00 in the morning, you need to be a poet, for sure. But by 11:00, you must become a humanist, or you lose your direction. And by noon, you absolutely need to be a builder. You need to be able to make a building because architecture is the art of making buildings. Architecture is the art of making shelter for human beings. Period. And this is not easy at all. It's amazing. Look at this. Here we are in London, at the top of the Shard of Glass. This is a building that we completed a few years ago. Those people you see are well-trained workers setting the top piece of the tower. They look like rock climbers. They are defying the force of gravity, like a building does. Literally. We had 30 of those people on that site and over 1,400 people from 16 different nationalities working on the project. It’s a miracle to bring so many people from different places together. This is another miracle—a construction adventure. It’s an adventure in real life, not just in spirit. Here is a deep-water diver. From rock climbers to deep-water divers, this is in Berlin after the fall of the wall in 1989. We built a building connecting East and West Berlin at Potsdamer Platz, with almost 5,000 people involved in the project. And here’s another in Japan: building the Kansai airport, with workers who look like rock climbers. Making a building together creates a sense of cooperation and pride. Pride is essential, but construction is just one reason why architecture is amazing. There’s another, maybe even more amazing, aspect: architecture is the art of making shelter for communities, not just individuals, but society at large. And society is always changing. Architecture reflects those changes. It’s the built expression of society's evolution. That’s why it’s so challenging—because those changes create adventure. And architecture is an adventure." #publicspeaking #architecture #tedtalk #architect #stuttering #speech #lecture

The Future of Architecture Corporate architecture firms offer more than a difference of scale. There is also a significant difference in variety of work. We know many small practices who do amazing design work; however, they do not have the capabilities to manage all of the other project attributes and services that may be attendant to such work. For example: Integrated Design Services: Large firms may offer integrated services including architecture, engineering, interior design, and landscape architecture, providing a one-stop solution for complex projects. Specialized Expertise: Large firms often have specialists in various fields like sustainable design, urban planning, historical restoration, healthcare facilities, etc. Advanced Technological Capabilities: They typically have access to the latest design technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM), virtual reality (VR) for design visualization, and advanced simulation software for energy modeling and structural analysis. Comprehensive Project Management: Large firms often have robust project management capabilities, handling everything from the initial concept to final construction, including complex logistics, budgeting, and scheduling. Research and Development: Many large firms invest in research and development, exploring new materials, construction methods, and sustainable practices, which can be applied to their projects. Risk Management and Compliance: They may have dedicated teams for managing risks, legal compliance, and navigating complex regulatory environments, especially useful in large-scale or international projects. For any young person looking for a fulfilling career in architecture, a small firm might offer an opportunity to work under the wing of a masterful designer. That's great if you know exactly what you want to do. For someone looking at a range of opportunities, large firms give more options and different paths to success. https://loom.ly/Uy_hYjc #architecture #culture #design Head Hi Henrybuilt Tiffany Jow

#EMPLOYEESPOTLIGHT Kyle Luong Strategy Director #DoingMore #CollectiveKnowledge #Architecture Q: What is Architecture to you? How do you think it affects people’s daily lives? For background, I am not an Architect. My background is in engineering and finance, but to me, Architecture is anything that comes up vertically out of the ground, has some sort of human interaction, and is man-made. By this description, Architecture affects every aspect of people’s daily lives, from the home they live in, to the office they work out of, and anything in between. Architecture is so woven into our everyday lives that we almost forget that some person or group was behind the buildings you enter and the experience you have within them. Q: What makes Project Luong unique? Why do you choose to work here? I have worked for consulting firms my whole career, and coming to work for an Architecture firm has been such a huge change. I am surrounded by creatives every day. They can imagine these beautiful buildings and sketch them on a napkin, then take that napkin and make it into a lifelike 3D rendering. I do not think this makes Project Luong unique amongst other Architecture firms; for that, I think it is how we treat our people. We care for the individual before anything else, and I have not truly seen this anywhere else. For this reason, I chose to work here because I believe in the Project that Project Luong is working on. Q: In your experience, what do you think makes a successful project team? Communication. The good, bad, and the ugly. No matter what, open, clear, and honest communication can make or break a successful project team. Q: How can designers better serve their clients? Even though I am not a designer, at Architecture’s core, it is a service industry. We as a firm provide a service to the client. The best way to serve the client is to think like a partner and not as another consultant on a project. Do what is needed, not only what is required. Our goal is to achieve scope, budget, quality, and functionality with an attitude of ownership, drive, and resourcefulness. Partner Thinking means we invest in your project as if it were our own, ensuring trust, accountability, and success. Q: What are some of the biggest challenges designers face in their projects? Not a designer, but as someone who reviews all the AR/AP, the biggest challenge is budget. How do we collectively agree on a value for the services that we can all agree on and also ensure we stay within scope? Q: Who has been your biggest influence? My biggest influence in my life has been my family (Mom, Dad, Brother, and Sister), but the biggest influence on my career was my first supervisor and manager that I had for the first 5 years of my career. She was a great boss and an even better mentor. If it was not for her, I do not believe I would be where I am today. So much of my knowledge stemmed from her, and I could not be more grateful.

Construction Industry Let's Discuss... | Series 1 | 001 Architecture is a dying breed? Has Architecture been capitalised and become a luxury? let's discuss... 💬 The landscape of architecture in the UK is evolving rapidly, raising questions about whether it’s becoming a luxury profession and potentially a dying breed. Recent trends suggest that architectural services are increasingly perceived as high-end investments rather than accessible solutions. According to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), architectural fees have surged by 12% in the past five years, reflecting the complexity and exclusivity of modern projects. As bespoke designs become more sought after, architecture appears to be shifting towards a luxury market. 💰 📈 High-net-worth individuals are driving this trend, with RIBA reporting that nearly 55% of architects have seen a rise in clients looking for custom, high-end projects. In prime locations such as London, bespoke architectural designs have contributed to property values increasing by up to 20% over the last decade. This surge underscores how architecture is increasingly associated with affluence and prestige, highlighting a growing divide between high-end and more affordable design solutions. 📈 Technological advancements have had a dual impact on the profession. While new design software and automation tools have streamlined some aspects of architectural work, they haven’t necessarily reduced costs. Instead, they’ve highlighted a split between high-touch, premium services and more automated, lower-cost solutions. This shift reinforces the perception of architecture as a luxury, particularly in urban areas where exclusive designs are in high demand. 📝 ➡ 💻 The profession is also grappling with a shrinking number of practitioners. The UK has seen a 5% decline in the number of registered architects over the past decade, driven by the demanding nature of the profession and economic fluctuations affecting the construction industry. This reduction in numbers could further limit access to architectural services and exacerbate the luxury status of the field. 👨💼 📉 --------------------------------------- Hi there, my name is Daniel. I am an Architectural Technology student at LJMU on a placement year with AECOM. Architect | Founder of WOMEN OF HARMONIOUS CIVILIZATION | Author of WOMAN AND THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY. EVOLUTION OF CIVILIZATION.
Architectural design holds the key to the discovery of new forms of energy. Architects of a Harmonious Civilization Post 1 Imagine a world where wars, national competitions, and conflicts are relics of the past. A civilization that redefines its relationship with natural resources reshapes its social structures and reimagines its architectural philosophy of sustainability. Architects with a global vision — the Founders of a Harmonious Civilization, can lead us away from the dead end of confrontation. Does that sound ambitious? Humanity will soon awaken to the truth that pursuing the hidden agendas of politicians and ego-driven goals exacts an unsustainable toll on our collective spirit and resources. When we chase goals imposed by others, we lose our natural equilibrium. New questions will arise: Who are we in a world of harmony? We are the designers of reality. Why should we deplete the planet's energy and resources to establish dominion over others? Because we are disconnected from our inner Creator. Isn't it more reasonable to seek new pathways for humanity's expression? Unquestionably. Innovative approaches to energy and resource management will resolve wars and national conflicts. Extracting energy and resources from the planet is no longer practical. Creating an energy exchange with the Earth is a sustainable approach akin to harnessing free electricity. Architectural design holds the key to this transformation. Visionary architects understand the critical importance of balanced energy and resource distribution. These architects—supramental visionaries—envision the inhabited world as a spiritual and intellectual continuum that nurtures the evolution of human superintelligence. Envision buildings that do more than occupy space—structures that harmonize with the planet's core, engaging in a dynamic exchange of energy. Through our insistence and creativity, architectural innovations will drive the discovery of new forms of energy. How do I know this? Because I am actively shaping this reality. Life responds to the intentions we set. I reject a future dictated by conflicts, wars, and disasters orchestrated by unseen hands. Instead, I call upon the ingenuity of visionary minds to forge new solutions. We will establish a global forum to collaboratively design our future, where we are free to channel our inspiration and dreams. Architects are not LEGO players or box builders; they are philosophers, scientists, explorers, artists, and creators of life, space, and time. We are global designers and visionaries crafting life experiences in space and time. The question is: Are architects fully aware of their power to create harmonious life experiences for humanity? What prevents us from achieving the freedom of global designers? To be continued. PS. Please like and help me with the network and investors. Share. If you feel your destiny to be a harmonious civilization's founder, please get in touch with me directly.
