Exploring Firearm Diversity: Examples and Uses Firearms encompass a diverse range of weaponry designed for various purposes. From handguns like revolvers and pistols, preferred for personal defense due to their compact size and ease of concealment, to rifles such as bolt-action and semi-automatic models, known for their accuracy and power over longer distances. Shotguns, distinguishable by their wide barrels, excel in close-range combat and hunting, firing pellets or slugs depending on the target. Each type of firearm serves specific roles: handguns for self-defense and law enforcement, rifles for hunting and military applications, and shotguns for sport shooting and home defense. Specialized firearms like submachine guns and machine guns are designed for rapid-fire in military settings, while sniper rifles offer unparalleled precision for long-distance shooting. The versatility of firearms extends to their historical and cultural significance, influencing art, literature, and military strategy throughout history. Understanding the diversity and utility of firearms is essential for responsible ownership and appreciation of their historical and modern roles. Whether for recreational shooting, competitive sports, or professional use, each type of firearm embodies centuries of technological evolution and societal impact. As we explore their capabilities and applications, let's ensure safety, respect for their power, and appreciation for their place in history and contemporary society. #Firearms #GunTypes #Weaponry #GunCulture #SelfDefense #HuntingRifle #Handguns #Shotguns #MilitaryWeapons #HistoricalFirearms #GunEnthusiast #TargetShooting #GunSafety #FirearmHistory #SniperRifle #CollectibleGuns #SecondAmendment #SportingArms #FirearmsCommunity #GunOwners

Thanks to #Hollywood, many people think that full-auto is the ultimate in firepower. But unless it is from a proper machine-gun on a bipod or tripod, or a submachine-gun; full-auto isn’t much more than an amusing gimmick for turning #Money into noise. But it sure is a fun gimmick. Between my personal collection & my various companies, I have well over 100 machine-guns from a full-auto GLOCK GmbH to belt-feds. I literally have stacks of post-sample M16 receivers laying around, which I could use to turn the long #Guns I use for #SelfDefense into select-fire weapons. But precisely none of the AR-15 type #Firearms I would actually use are select-fire. Even if #Russian paratroopers landed in Live Oak County tomorrow, as in the 1984 documentary film Red Dawn, I still wouldn’t be switching out my AR-15 lowers for M-16s. First, there’s the #Legal part. Congress banned the further registration of new machine-guns for civilians in 1986. So if you don’t want to get an FFL/SOT, you’re looking at ~$25k for a transferable M16. If you have that kind of cash to blow on a self-defense firearm that if you actually use it in self-defense, the cops will probably take it for months at a time; hit me up about getting an LMT Defense M203 40mm grenade-launcher to go with it. Texas Machine-Gun & Ordnance has them in stock & ready to go! If you are an FFL/SOT, theoretically your post-sample machine-guns are only supposed to be dealer samples to demonstrate to #Police & #LawEnforcement. While I doubt ATF would really care if you used it in self-defense, the fact that you used a post-sample in a #Shooting will draw attention you probably don’t want. Then we get into the optics of shooting someone with a machine-gun, even in self-defense. I think much of the misgivings about self-defense firearms & ammunition are overblown. But if the shooting looks iffy on if it was justified, using a machine-gun isn’t going to work in your favor. But the most important part is that full-auto is just dumb outside of very limited situations. If doesn’t take Jerry Miculek to quickly put rounds on target with semi-auto. Yes, full-auto could theoretically do it faster, but at the loss of accuracy & controllability It is possible to shoot full-auto accurately & use it effectively. This is especially true of pistol caliber-SMGs, which aside from belt-feds, are the one area that full-auto makes sense. But when you compare the practice & other factors required to master full-auto, compared to just shooting a semi-auto fast, it doesn't make much sense. Even using a full-auto SMG compared to a semi-auto 5.56 comes up short. Machine-guns, much like exotic stuff such as explosive #Ordnance, grenade-launchers, rocket-launchers, etc; is plenty of fun to play with. But come up quite short on the practical applications.

Here we have 2 GLOCK, Inc. 19s & a #3DPrinted Ordnance Lab GLOK7, knock-off of a Glock 45 with a TacSol 22LR kit. The left GLOCK GmbH is a Gen 2 former New York City Police Department service pistol, while the right one is a Gen 4 functioning as the host for my “GLOCK FOWTY” autosear (or “switch”). Both were made in #Austria & imported to the US as pistols. As pistols they had to conform to ATF's standards of “sporting purposes”. But once they’re imported, you do whatever you want with them so long as they remain handguns. As a machine-gun, the host for the autosear can have any barrel-length or a stock without issue. The host is only a machine-gun as long as the auto-sear is in it. Remove the sear, it’s now a pistol & can’t have a stock. But if I wanted to turn either into a Short-Barrel Rifle (SBR), I’d run into 922(r) issues. 922(r) prohibits the domestic assembly of non-importable shotguns & semi-auto rifles, unless it has enough American made parts. For either of these Austrian #Firearms to become a 922(r) compliant SBR, American parts would need to be substituted. However, since the receivers were imported as pistols, even if it is registered with #ATF as an SBR, because it started life as a pistol, it automatically reverts to being a pistol when it no longer has the features making it into an SBR. When it is a pistol, 922(r) goes out the window. As an SBR, 922(r) attaches. The GLOK7 is different in 2 ways. Firstly, it started off as an SBR. A rifle cannot become a pistol, even if the design is nominally a handgun. For this particular pistol, without the stock attached, the weapon would still be classified as a rifle. With a barrel under 16” it is an SBR, even without the stock, because the receiver started as a rifle & can never be a pistol. Ordnance Lab could have manufactured it as a pistol & then SBR’d it. But I wanted to be different, so it will always be a rifle, even if it isn’t set up as one. Since it is going into my personal collection & I have an FFL/SOT as sole-prop #ExpertWitness, I don’t have to worry about the $200 transfer tax a non-FFL would. It just means I have to leave it on my records as an FFL/SOT. Secondly, it is an American origin SBR. 922(r) still attaches if I make it entirely from foreign parts. But this one is mostly made from US origin parts, so I don’t have to worry about 922(r). Needless to say, ATF regulations are complex. I’m not a #Lawyer & none of this is #LegalAdvice. But I do regularly correct #Lawyers on #Compliance related matters. Ordnance & Energetics Consulting LLC can help you navigate ATF & #ITAR regulations for #Import, #Export, #Manufacturing & dealing of #Guns, #Explosives & #Ordnance. We work with #StartUps, #VentureCapital & other businesses in the #Defense space. And for the record, Die Hard 2 (even with its Glock 7s) was garbage. It should be considered non-canonical & just John McClaine having bad dream, like every other Die Hard film except 1 & 3.

When I do the "leaving on a jetplane" thing for Germany, I typically bring #Firearms for customers. It's much easier to pay Lufthansa €100 for a checked firearm, than $1000-$1500 to ship it as cargo. Since I can't possess #Guns in #Germany, the customer will meet me at the Zoll & take possession of them. Here we have a single-shot shotgun that Sean Connolly built out in a Fallout style shotgun & a SIG SAUER, Inc. MCX Short-Barrel Rifle (SBR). Here in the US, under ATF #Regulations, the shotgun is a normal, non-NFA shotgun & can be transferred like any other firearm. While the Sig is strictly regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). Conversely, in Germany, due to the overall length being too short, while the shotgun isn't categorically prohibited like a machine-gun or rocket-launcher, it does requires special permission to possess. By switching out the folding stock for the Sig for a fixed one, the Sig doesn't require any special permitting.

Double, double #TwoForTuesday of Schrödinger's #Guns which could be a pistol, Short-Barrel Rifle, or Machine-Gun. These are both MKE MP5K clones imported as handguns. Subsequently both have been registered by Texas Machine-Gun & Ordnance as Short-Barrel Rifles (SBRs). Both also have NOWIHAVEAMACHINEGUNHOHOHO ATF registered Heckler & Koch GmbH trigger packs, temporarily converting them into machine-guns. The key thing to remember here is that “machine-guns trumps all”. In ATF’s totem of NFA items, MGs are at the top of the NFA totem pole. That means an MG can have any caliber or barrel length. As an example, Ordnance Lab used a can-cannon launcher mounted to a M16 lower as a de facto grenade-launcher without worrying about it being a Destructive Device, because you can do whatever you want with an MG. Normally once #Firearms have been converted into MGs, they can’t go back. But if using an MG conversion device (which #ATF classifies as a MG in & of itself), the weapon temporarily becomes an MG as long as it has the conversion device in. Also, normally a rifle cannot become a pistol. But a pistol converted into a rifle or SBR can revert back to a pistol. With the MG trigger pack in the weapon, the weapon is immune from 922(r)’s prohibition from assembling a non-importable semi-auto rifle from an imported firearm & the NFA's barrel length restrictions. Remove the trigger pack & leave the stock on, the weapon becomes an SBR & 922(r) attaches. However, the barrel length is irrelevant & so is the forward grip. Remove the stock, but leave the forward grip in place, it remains an SBR. This is because a handgun can’t have a forward grip unless it is registered as an Any Other Weapon (AOW). Though a firearm can be multiple classifications in practice, ATF will not allow the same S/N to be registered as more than 1 NFA item. So an SBR, can’t also be an AOW, even if it is configured as one. Remove the stock & the forward grip, the weapon reverts back to a pistol, which means 922(r) doesn’t apply, but it cannot have the stock or forward grip. #Firearms & #Explosives #Laws & #Regulations are quite complex & confusing. But Ordnance & Energetics Consulting LLC provides #Consulting & #ExpertWitness services for #StartUps, #VentureCapital & other businesses in the #Defense industry. As always, I'm not a #Lawyer & none of this is #LegalAdvice, but I do regularly correct #Lawyers on #Compliance related matters.

Detachable magazines with a capacity exceeding 10 rounds are the overwhelming standard for firearm owners in the United States. This new Detachable Magazine Report (1990-2021), which surveyed 30-plus years of detachable magazine production and distribution, demonstrated that of the conservatively estimated 963,772,000 detachable magazines supplied from a firearm manufacturer and in the aftermarket, at least 717,900,000 have a capacity exceeding 10 rounds, the limit some states place for lawful magazine possession. With nearly 1 billion detachable magazines in circulation, for both rifles and pistols, they are unquestionably commonly-owned and commonly-used for lawful firearm use, including recreational target shooting, hunting and self-defense. They are “arms” within the meaning of the Second Amendment. Detachable magazines are integral to the design of, and necessary for the proper functioning of, today’s modern semi-automatic firearms. https://lnkd.in/g99bDdQi #MSR #StandardCapacityMagazines #detachablemagazine #gunowners #SHOTBusiness
