Using a mobile phone while you're driving is perfectly legal as long as you don't hold it in your hand while using it (secured in a cradle or similar), however, some research suggests that despite being legal, hands free is just as dangerous as not. Being legal and being safe are two different things (some might argue that being illegal and being unsafe aren't always necessarily the same either). As ever, there's a fine line and as such a reasonable debate around using laws to limit the ability of the reckless to cause harm, which necessarily trade off against the freedoms of the safe and aware. Here is a summary of the recommendations: 💭 Police officers with children should be aware that their children may be targeted with negative messages online or on gaming platforms due to their parents' profession. 💭 Police officers should engage in early conversations with their children about social media and potential online harms. This should include practical advice on settings and privacy measures. 💭 Police officers should consciously consider the appropriate age to grant their children access to smartphones and social media. Delaying access until a slightly older age may be beneficial.
