Excited to share a digital version of my Master's thesis, "Fragments, Corridors and Connections, An Alternative Approach To The Reuse Of The Decommissioned Atatürk Airport of İstanbul". This thesis was more than just academic work; it was a thorough exploration of the complex interactions between natural fragmentation, urban change, and the substantial effects these have on the structure of cities and ecological balance. The ambition to question the norm and reinvent the potential of vacant urban places was at the very heart of this endeavor. The thesis explored techniques for regenerating the soil, but it was also interested in creating urban oasises for recreation, ensuring that areas that were once devoid of public spaces now have places to breathe, interact, and coexist. #MastersThesis

I am excited to announce that I will be participating as a speaker at the Changing Cities VI International Conference next Tuesday, June 25, in Rhodes Island, Greece. At this conference, I will be presenting my research study, “Urban Evolution and Tech Optimism: A Dialectic of City Planning and Utopia” which examines the factors shaping contemporary ideas of urban utopia and the characteristics of the ideal city—particularly in the context of the environmental crisis and current urban planning capabilities. My research explores emerging technologies, current trends, practices, and tools in urban planning, with a case study of the MIT Media Lab Radar Plot applied in the center of Athens, Greece. This year's theme, "Climate Crisis: Cities’ Transitions Towards Smart & Green Development," underscores the urgent need for smart, sustainable urban solutions. I look forward to contributing to discussions on sustainable, resilient, and equitable cities, smart technologies, and climate change. Moreover, I am thrilled to engage with leading experts and practitioners dedicated to sustainable urban transformation. Last but not least, I would like to sincerely thank my supervisor Sotirios D Kotsopoulos PhD for his invaluable guidance throughout this academic journey. For those interested, I will also be presenting at the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens, on July 2 at 16:00. https://lnkd.in/dBu2_3bf #changingcitiesconference #ClimateCrisis #SmartCities #SustainableCities #GreenDevelopment #UrbanResearch #conference2024 #rhodesisland

📌 July 2022: beginning Master's Degree in Sustainable Planning and Design of Port Areas. 📌 March 31, 2023: Thesis discussion titled "Alternative Future for Vlorë: A Green Smart Port City." 📌 April 23, 2024: presentation of the research work based on the thesis at the 14th Biennial of European Cities and Urban Planners, entitled "An Alternative Sustainable Future for Vlorë: An Integrated Decision-Support System for a Green Smart Port City." This latest event marked a significant milestone. This demonstrates how a team with diverse professional backgrounds, yet united by a common goal, can make a substantial difference. The work we produced, originating from thorough back-office analysis, illuminates the potential of sustainability and the circular economy to substantively affect the city-port system. Moreover, it emphasizes that the involvement and consideration of all stakeholders are crucial. With a sense of satisfaction and a continued aspiration to create a ripple effect in this field, I am pleased to share a segment of the work developed in collaboration with my colleagues Giuditta Mikhail, Giuseppe D'Aniello, Andrea Paglialunga, and Massimo Savino. #MasterInSustainablePlanningAndDesignOfPortAreas #14thBiennaleOfEuropeanTownsAndTownPlannersNapoli #Europe #Albania #Vlora #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #SDGs psp master diarc unina Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UniNa) / University of Naples Federico II ISTITUTO NAZIONALE DI URBANISTICA European Commission Valona Intelligence 🔗 https://masterdiarc.it/psp 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dzpkszeB

The LE:NOTRE International Student Competition aims to support systematic, integrated and holistic approaches to landscape transformation and elaborating planning and design. The focus of the competition in 2023/24 is on the Emajõgi together with several watercourses or water elements which are associated with it: 1. The Porijõgi river, a recreational area, the neighboring Aardlapalu sand extraction quarry with the plans for re-naturalization as well as the connection to the industrial part of Tartu and the new bridge; 2. The Ihaste ditch, entering the Emajõgi through a protected Natura 2000 area under much recreational pressure, flowing through areas already under rapid housing development and with the potential for more; 3. The Jaamamõisa stream, flowing partly overground and partly underground through the various urban areas of Tartu, starting from the rural periphery of the city, offering potential blue-green connections; 4. The Tähtvere stream in north-western Tartu, which has lost most of its inflow due to urban development. It was historically part of the Estonian manor landscape, today flowing through the University campus.

I recently conducted a masterclass for Master of Science in Creativity and Design Management students from South America, Northern Europe, North Africa, China, and France as part of the International Seminar on Comparative Design Management with KEDGE Arts School. The lecture, 'Comparative Design Approaches between China and Saudi Arabia,' delved into the historical, cultural, and economic backgrounds of both countries. Our discussions revolved around crucial topics like urban development, urban revitalization, ecology, water management, environmental challenges, and the promotion of public art and innovation. As design plays an increasingly defining role in defining our identity, discussing and analyzing these development approaches can help us more profoundly comprehend the national vision and develop innovative solutions tailored to each unique setting.

🎉 Article Published! 🎉 🎓 PhD Journey in Progress! 🚀 "The sustainable development in post-communist countries: Comparative study Romania / France" Abstract. This article aims to explore sustainable development pathways in the housing sector of post-communist countries from the former Eastern Bloc, in the context of the ongoing growth of major urban centers, contemporary changes and socio-economic transformations within cities. To establish the limits of this brief research, we will examine sustainable development through social, economic, political and demographic aspects. Additionally, to enhance our understanding of sustainable housing development, we will apply a multidisciplinary approach to two case studies: Romania and France. By adopting this multidisciplinary perspective, we will compile and analyze the key events along a timeline that underlie major paradigm shifts in each researched domain. Comparing these events in terms of temporality and intensity will provide insights into the parameters under which sustainable housing developments should evolve. Looking forward to presenting among a group of great contributors at this wonderful symposium on sonic ecologies at Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London Quiet Urgency: Disturbing sonic ecologies Wednesday 5 June 2024 9.30 AM - 6 PM,Central Saint Martins (N1C) The symposium will ask what it means to think about sound through an ecological framework, and about ecology through a sonic framework. It will ask how urban design has shaped ecologies of sound, but also how the sonic agency of non-human life exceeds and disturbs what can be planned. Should green spaces be considered quiet zones, as they are in urban sound policy, when this imaginary is disturbed by the vibrant sonics of non-human life? Are the sounds of infrastructure and technology part of this ecological vitality, or themselves disturbances to it? How can refuge from sonic disturbance be designed if we think beyond silence as an acoustic ideal? More info: https://lnkd.in/dymer2Qu

AA Autumn Semester Programme 9th September - 13th December Venice is facing critical environmental challenges that are directly related to the urban structure of the island. Amidst flooding, subsidence and pollution, there are challenges to protect environment, local communities and cultural heritage. Students will explore how to preserve the character of the place while simultaneously promoting sustainable tourism and urban solutions in order to preserve natural resources and ecosystems, as well as provide economic opportunities to the local community. We will investigate the municipality initiatives of investing in renewable energy sources, promoting sustainable mobility, and preserving the city's cultural heritage to propose urban strategies and architectural opportunities. Participants in the Autumn Semester Programme 2024 will examine the environmental and the functional, the architectural and landscape typologies by analysing both tangible and intangible conditions of the context. Each student will develop their own brief to target specific design challenges that promote initiatives that foster Venice 2030 Sustainable goals.
