Here is a challenge of mine when working from home… Trying to find somewhere quiet to work when the kids are off school during the holidays. We have seven children at home. So when school is off, this is home for them to play and be children. I’m planning ahead to make sure I’ve got some cool spots to work this summer when needed. What does it feel like? 1️⃣ I look for venues that have creative spaces and contribute to the experience versus having to create the experience within the four boring walls. 💁♀️ Basically I don't want to spend the money to bringing in furniture and event rentals to create the environment (this becomes too costly and I'd rather find the right place and spend money on more experiencial components). 2️⃣ Creative and unique environments to inspire the teams creativity and space to create connection. 🌴 The reason you're on retreat is to reengage with your team, set new direction or vision or just get work done. That sucks when you're in a boring environment. 3️⃣ Vetting reviews, photos and sources I mean don't you hate it when you go on vacation and the resort you're staying at looked amazing online.... but when you got there it was not what you expected? We hate that too. 📸 Between doing site visits as often as possible and finding as many honest reviews as possible - we're looking for the reality vs the instagram version. It's also important to get together occasionally to shake hands, give hugs, strategize, and build relationships. I think back fondly to the company and team retreats. One thing we learned at 15Five that it takes effort to pull off a great retreat. There are logistics like booking accommodations and reserving venues and restaurants. You need to plan each day and make sure there is time for teamwork, fun, bonding, and downtime. There's travel and other contingencies like getting SIM cards and making sure the projector works.
