𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 | Did you know that there is a cool, comfortable sanctuary in Marfori Botanical Park, situated in the middle of the busy urban landscape? Thanks to its lush Bamboo vegetation, there's a shaded area where temperatures average at a refreshing 35°C. In contrast, the average ambient temperature of the scorching concrete roads nearby is measuring around 48°C. It's evident that green areas like this are our allies against our city's rising heat.
Our recent study underscores the importance of green havens in combating Urban Heat Island (UHI) and high heat indexes. As Davao City's recent heat indexes range from 40-42°C, trees and vegetation play a crucial role, lowering ambient temperatures and increasing humidity through evapotranspiration.
Together, let's advocate for creating more green space in places where locals gather and protect our existing green sanctuaries. It's time to prioritize parks, urban green spaces, and using permeable materials for a cooler, more sustainable future.
