Founder & Executive Recruiter @ JFK Talent | Sales, Operations, Office | Entry → Executive Placements
What would your answers be to these out-of-the-box interview questions? Q. "How did you prepare for your interview with us today?" Q. "You mention you are great at your job. What would it take for you to be outstanding at your job?" Q. "Of all the positions you've carried over the years, which one did you enjoy the best and who inspired you the most during that time in your life?" Q. "What is a talent you have that you aren't using now but want to be able to use in your next role?" Q. "What do you think you can achieve professionally with our company that you couldn't achieve with one of our competitors?" Q. "No one is perfect. Tell me about a time you dropped the ball at work and how you worked through it to fix your mistake." Q. "If I were to give you my job/chair today, what three things would you focus on changing first in our organization?" Q. "I'm sure I have missed something on you, what is the one question you were hoping I would ask but didn't yet?" If you have other unique questions you have given or received, I'd love to add them to my "list"👇 #interviewprep #interviewquestions #hr #talentacquisition #headhunting #executiverecruitment #hiring #jobsearch #jfktalent

Are one-way interviews effective? I'd like your thoughts. Many companies use them for all kinds of positions. From Chick-Fil-A kitchen staff to the aluminum manufacturer down the street, it's been adopted quite a bit over the years. Here are my thoughts. Undoubtedly, it provides an efficiency component. HMs and recruiters can review videos at any time instead of waiting to coordinate schedules for phone screens, etc. There seems to be a correlation between people performing great in a 30-sec to 2-min video with great customer service, but I'm not sure I buy that. I've read studies that show they introduce a lot of bias. Those with better backgrounds and other silly things tend to fair better (as long as their performance isn't dismal). We already make people learn so many non-job related skills just to get an interview, are we now adding one more. Learning to write a resume, interviewing, and now video recording - most of which have nothing to do with the jobs that use one-way interviews. So again, I'd like your thoughts. Are they effective? How much do they help more than they harm? #crowdsourcing #jobsearch #onewayinterview

ADDING A WORK TRIAL TO YOUR INTERVIEW PROCESS What exactly is a “work trial”? A work trial refers to a step in the interview process where candidates are asked to complete a project that’s representative of the work they’ll be doing in the role. The “representativeness” falls on a spectrum, from doing an in-depth project at home (e.g. 37signals) to co-working with existing employees in the real codebase building something the company will ship. Why do a work trial? Simple: it gives you significantly more signal on the candidate. It makes it obvious who to hire. It is frequently surprising how someone performs relative to what we thought in the interviews about their skills Work trials not only help you better gauge the candidate’s skill set, they also help you understand how much the candidate wants to work at your company. Yes the trial is about their work. But it’s also about them seeing all the internals of the company, culture, finances, attitudes , etc. #Okwontocrat #growthmindset
