In any competitive job market it is crucial to have a resume that not only introduces yourself, your experience, and what you bring to a role, but also stands out over the rest. We recently polled our recruiting team for tips on making a resume stand out, and the answer was clear across the board: Remember the basics! To start, a resume with good formatting that is clean and easy to read immediately catches a recruiter’s attention! Things like double-checking your spelling and using the same font throughout a document shows a potential employee’s professionalism. How do you organize the information you give in a simple way? Our team has the following suggestions: 1: Include both a phone number and email at the top as well as your city and state. You’d be surprised how often this step is missed! 2: List your job history in order from most recent to oldest. Include your high school education and the name of any other schooling you completed, along with the accreditations and accolades you earned. 3: Make sure your employment dates contain both MONTH and YEAR, along with recognizable job titles. Include a few bullets or a short summary of your responsibilities for each position, tailoring the experience listed to reflect how it makes you a good fit for the job you’re applying for. 4: Create a summary of your applicable skills for each position you apply for towards the top of the resume, including "Hard skills". Not just the soft skills like "Hard working" or "Detail-Oriented". The hard skills are clear experiences or equipment and software you know how to use! You have one chance to sell yourself! Spend time on your resume and truly tell your story in a way that is clean, simple, and easy to read!

You include specifics about your experiences, talents, and qualities that make you amazing. Consider it an opportunity to demonstrate your worth to a corporation. Tell them who you are and where you work. Then, share your background, employment history, and skill set. Speak simply, and keep in mind that creating an engaging list is just as important as listing items. Demonstrate your abilities and your capacity for being a fantastic team member. Your CV will effectively express your narrative if you keep it organized It does not have to be tricky to come up with a creative and effective resume. To ensure that yours stands out, take these easy steps: Begin with the Basics: Start at the top with your name and contact details. Ensure that employers can easily get in touch with you. Write an efficient autobiographical paragraph to provide an attractive summary. Address your advantages and unique qualities. Be creative and allow your individuality to come through. Recall that your CV serves as a personal marketing for you. Ensure that it accurately showcases your abilities and character to attract the interest of prospective employers.

My Productivity Practice ⌛: A Master Resume! A few people have contacted me about resumes over the last few weeks, so I thought creating some content about resumes would be helpful. Over the last 5 years, I have applied to 5 external jobs, of which I have gotten 3 interviews and received 3 offers. Full disclosure, I am not a resume expert, but I do have a few productivity practices that I believe help my resume when applying to jobs. My "Master" resume is a document that contains my work, volunteer, and educational history. This document is over a page long and has 5 to 10 bullet points for most of my experiences. I keep a "Master" resume to help me tailor my resume when applying for jobs. I can pick and choose which bullet points to highlight in my resume that also matches the job description. I update my "Master" resume quarterly to ensure I can provide details that I might forget at a later date. The CV presents a full history of your academic credentials, so the length of the document is variable. In contrast, a resume presents a concise picture of your skills and qualifications for a specific position, so length tends to be shorter and dictated by years of experience (generally 1-2 pages).

Have you been GUITY OF USING RESUME WHERE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO USE A CV (vice-versa)? LOL. MAYBE WE'RE ALL GUITY 🤣🤣🤣 Okay, let's take a look at their distinct characteristics. Here's a breakdown: * The most striking difference is LENGTH. A RESUME is a CONCISE (BRIEF) document, typically one page long, that summarizes your most relevant skills & experience for a "SPECIFIC JOB." While a CV is a comprehensive record of your ENTIRE ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND. It can run for 2 - 5 pages, with no set limit. * A RESUME has your basic data like full-name, phone number, & email address, while CV may include your LOCATION/ADDRESS, HOBBIES & just some UNNECESSARY EXTRAS. * RESUME focuses on ACHIEVEMENTS & SKILLS "directly" related to the job you're applying for. They highlight your work experience, using quantifiable results to showcase your impact. A CV takes a more expansive approach; it includes your entire work history, even experiences not directly tied to the specific job. It also delves deeper into your academic achievements, listing publications, presentations, & research experience. * RESUMES follow a STANDARD FORMAT with clear sections for work experience, education, & skills. This makes it easy for recruiters to scan your qualifications quickly. CVs have more flexibility in formatting. Let's say like sections for awards, grants, languages, & professional affiliations, depending on your field & experience. * RESUMES should be CUSTOMIZED for EACH JOB APPLICATION. Recently, a client threw this question my way: "Is it okay to have a list of brands highlighted in a professional resume summary?" My response? A perfect "NO." When crafting a resume summary, the spotlight should be on relevant keywords that align with the desired job. This facilitates the smooth navigation of the Applicant Tracking System and eliminates the need for a random list of brands, which adds little value compared to the abundance of keywords in the job description.
