Capitalists says I want to grow my Business so I can provide Jobs for People in my Community. Tell the TRUTH, You want to STEAL their Labor Value and call it PROFITS so You make more Money. If You really cared about Your Community You would start a co-op with EQUALLY SHARED Profits. And if You really, really cared about Your Community, You would start Community co-ops like Contributionism One Small Towns is working towards.

At The True Life Companies, we've seen firsthand how strategic investments in real estate can be a powerful tool for advancing philanthropic objectives. Real estate investors can generate financial returns and meaningful social impact by developing attainable housing for first-time home buyers, revitalizing underserved neighborhoods, and creating spaces that foster community engagement. It's a win-win approach that aligns the interests of investors, residents, and the broader community, creating a virtuous growth cycle and prosperity.

Technology, living with it can seem daunting and overwhelming some days. Living without it, well that can be challenging too. After too many times where my team crowded around a small screen, we applied for grant money to set up meeting room equipment that lots of large organisations take for granted. Thank you Graham Perrett and the Stronger Communities grant program. Today, we launched it! We talked about the opportunities for the future and our hope that lots of small support groups will be able to join us on-line more effectively. What's the equipment or challenge for your group that a relatively small grant can fix... the first step, brainstorming to figure out your top priorities.

"We're making it work." One of the most endearing and inspiring aspects of working with so many nonprofits over the years is their ingenuity. Taking on a huge problem, attacking it with limited resources, and accomplishing real change in their communities and across the globe. What gets tricky is scaling that resourcing strategy. As NPOs grow, the ingenuity of "we're making it work" can eventually turn into the complacency of "it's getting the job done" to "it's fine." Scarcity mindsets take hold and investments in technology and infrasturue don't match the missional growth. Keeping alignment with your program growth and your relationship-building infrastructure is critical for long-term sustainability. Stay in the game as a ⚡️relevant⚡️foe to the problem you're solving.

An idea is just an idea until the right people rally behind it and mold it into reality. How do we combat the displacement of communities? How do we promote local control, ownership and wealth building in our models of neighborhood investment? How do ensure that we maintain space in the long-term that is affordable and accessible? These are the questions that come up every day in our work -- HOW to invest in underserved communities and build long-term, thriving neighborhoods. And the answer is complex -- there is no silver bullet. Which is why expanding the tools available to neighborhoods, developers and cities is critical. The Kensington Corridor Trust is a leading tool in an expanding tool chest -- taken from theory, molded in passion and thrown into practice. However, it wouldn't be where it was today without the key ingredient -- a group of cross-sector leaders came together to give it form and then to attract the best leadership and... step aside. This four-year introspection from the Nowak Metro Finance Lab, led by Karen Black and supported by The Barra Foundation brought us down memory lane. This was hard work, molded by the intensity needed to get this right - as stakeholders, partners and leadership for the City of Philadelphia and in the national context of community work. It wasn't easy, but I am so proud of how this organization, led by the indefatigable and community-grounded Adriana Abizadeh, continues to break new ground nationally, accomplishing this in the difficulty of the complex, underinvested, yet strong and resilient community of Kensington. How Communities Can Fight Gentrification Together! This is such an important discussion! Preventing displacement and gentrification starts with community ownership and awareness. By pooling small amounts of capital, local residents can take control of their neighborhoods, building the businesses and spaces they want to see—before outside forces move in. This is why education is crucial. People need to know they can invest in their own communities, that their neighborhood coffee shop can remain locally owned, and that their investments can shape the future of their surroundings. When businesses share their social impact stories, it connects with people on a much deeper level than just profit-driven narratives. Of course, profit is important—we all agree on that—but it's the impact on community, culture, and well-being that truly resonates. This is how we build vibrant, resilient communities through strategic, community-focused investments. #CommunityOwnership #PreventDisplacement #SocialImpactInvesting #RealEstateCrowdfunding #InvestLocal #BuildTogether #EmpowerCommunities #SustainableGrowth
