ALERT: Evictions have surged by OVER 21% in Maricopa County, topping 83,000 filings in 2023. With eviction numbers surging, families like Heavyn Glascow's are being forced out of their homes, and individuals like Kristopher Aranda are left starting from scratch after losing loved ones and their homes. Evictions in Arizona are reaching record levels, causing immense pain, expense, and disruption to families and communities. This crisis affects parents and children the most, pushing them to the brink of homelessness with just one unexpected expense. It's far more effective to prevent evictions than to deal with the aftermath of homelessness. More resources are urgently needed to support families and keep them in their homes. A New Leaf is committed to preventing evictions and providing affordable housing solutions. We must invest more in these efforts to ensure stability and security for families across the Valley. Together, we can make a difference and keep our communities intact. https://lnkd.in/dHXUsc75

🔴 Urgent Call to Action: Addressing the Housing Emergency 🔴 As social workers, we see the profound impact of homelessness on individuals and families daily. The government data, highlighted in an article by Ella Nuttall from Shelter on February 29, 2024, reveals a sharp increase in rough sleeping and child homelessness. This is a crisis that the government cannot afford to ignore. 🔸 Key Findings: Rough Sleeping: 3,898 people are sleeping rough in England, marking a 27% annual increase. This stark rise indicates a failure to meet the 2019 manifesto commitment to end street homelessness by 2024. Temporary Accommodation: A record 109,000 households, including 142,490 children, are now homeless in temporary accommodations, reflecting a 10% and 14% increase, respectively, over the past year. 🔸 Consequences: The lack of stable housing affects our social care system and schools, exacerbating issues like temporary accommodation instability, 'no fault' evictions, and poor housing conditions. One in three adults in Britain is impacted by the housing emergency, living in overcrowded, unsafe, or unaffordable housing. 🔸 Call for Action: With the election now behind us, it's critical that our leaders commit to urgent action to tackle this escalating crisis. The government must prioritize: Building a new generation of social rent homes. Making private renting secure and affordable. Raising the standard of rented homes. Improving housing rights and enforcement. 👉 Find out how the housing emergency is affecting your area: Shelter Visualization Tool (https://lnkd.in/drKPp3pa) Together, we can push for the systemic changes needed to end this crisis. #SocialWork #Homelessness #HousingCrisis #SupportSocialHousing #EndRoughSleeping

The Eviction Epidemic: A Crisis of Compassion in Maricopa County As the sun rises over Phoenix, a devastating reality unfolds. A staggering 36,000 eviction notices were filed in Maricopa County last year, a 25% surge from 2022. This crisis is not just about housing; it's a humanitarian emergency fueled by skyrocketing rent prices that have risen 15% in just one year, pushing tenants to the brink. The impact is far-reaching and devastating. Families are torn from their homes, severing community ties and forcing many into shelters or temporary housing. The most vulnerable among us - children, seniors, and those living paycheck to paycheck - bear the brunt of this disaster, plunged into deeper uncertainty and hardship. In Maricopa County, where affordable housing is scarce and rent control non-existent, the situation is dire. Without protections, we're telling our neighbors they're disposable, their homes, families, and dignity mere collateral damage in the pursuit of profit. Community advocates demand urgent action: rent control measures and increased funding for affordable housing programs. It's not just necessary; it's a moral imperative. We can do better, and we must. Maricopa County must prioritize residents over profits, implementing rent control and investing in affordable housing programs that empower families to thrive, not just survive. The eviction epidemic is a stain on our conscience; together, we can create a future where every family has a secure home and compassion triumphs over greed. 🚨 Affordable Housing Crisis Alert 🚨 A recent report by the Affordable Housing Advisory Board (AHAB) reveals that Washington State needs over a million new homes in the next 20 years to address the critical shortage of affordable housing. Nearly half of these homes must be accessible to families earning less than 50% of the area median income. The shortage is causing homelessness, housing instability, and rising costs for low- and moderate-income families. The AHAB Five-Year Housing Advisory Plan outlines over 50 recommendations to remove barriers to affordable housing, including increased funding, streamlined processes, and support for homeownership. The report also features personal stories highlighting the impact of housing insecurity. 📊 Dive into the report for more insights: https://lnkd.in/g_fJD96Z

A new report from CASE, the consortium of 12 housing associations in the South East of which we are a member, shows the next government will face a worrying shortfall of 1.2 million affordable homes over the next decade. This deficit will be most acute in the South East, where 54,000 homes need to be built per year. At Hyde, we’re playing our part to plug this gap. We’ve maintained our development pipeline over the next five years, and will be building thousands of affordable homes for families in the South East. But this isn't enough. Without government action, the symptoms of the housing crisis, like homelessness, overcrowding and unaffordability, will only get worse. The report proposes a five-point plan to boost the supply of social homes and make a meaningful difference to the housing crisis. #UKHousing #HousingCrisis #SocialHousing #AffordableHousing

The rent is too high! 🏡📈 Across the country as rent prices go up, so does homelessness. A new national study from The Brookings Institution Metro Report by Hanna Love and Tracy Hadden Loh, highlighted by The Columbus Dispatch, showcases this harsh reality: 🔑 Nationwide housing costs are surging. 🔑 There’s a disturbing correlation between homelessness and lack of affordable housing. The key takeaway? If we worked more toward streamlining the complicated housing process and less toward putting barriers in place for future homeowners and renters, everyone would be better off. Thanks to Mark Ferenchik for the insightful article. #HousingCrisis #AffordableHousing #CommunityAction

In recent months, there has been an increasing frequency of discussion concerning various housing options within the Housing First model. The housing crisis is undeniably a significant contributing factor, owing to the shortage of affordable housing. However, a notable portion of these discussion has predominantly centered around the diverse housing needs of individuals. This is what it is all about, one size does not fit all, not in support, nor in housing. Adaptation is needed. Therefore commendable that several locations have progressed from deliberations to implementation. In the picture Väinölä Housing First unit. Let’s continue our discussion of rental housing. Here are five more economic facts about this kind of housing: 1. Rent inflation is similar across U.S. metro areas. It has been high and widely felt in the rental market. 2. When a renting household has a lower income, rent is often more than one-third of their entire budget. 3. Federal housing assistance consistently isn’t enough to meet housing needs. 4. Single adults are behind the rise in unsheltered homelessness. It takes years for families to get housing choice vouchers. #denverrental #denverrealestate #rentalmarket #denverrealtor #denverrealestatemarket #yourcastlerealestate #doortodenverteam
