Attended an 11U baseball tournament this weekend and unfortunately witnessed a lot of young hurlers trying to spin curve balls. How about throwing with correct mechanics? How about throwing strikes and getting ahead of hitters? How about mixing speeds? How about switching between a 4-seam and 2-seam fastball? How about developing a change up with your fastball arm speed? What about hitting spots? There are plenty of things a young pitcher can do to be competitive and help thier team win games or even tournaments. There are SO many things wrong with youth sports these days (parents, coaches, financial & time suck, etc.). But intentionally putting a young arm at risk of injury for the chance to win a plastic ring or trophy makes zero sense. ZERO.

Yesterday I heard TV announcers talk about the geographic expansion of lacrosse at the highest levels and decided to take a look to see if the data supports this. Home states/provinces of Men's D1 college lacrosse participants are expanding at the highest levels of the sport. Below are athletes from the top-20 teams by RPI as of April 20th. Athletes from the top ten states & provinces declined from 83% in 2009 to 76% in 2024.
