Exploring Suede Fabric: Everything You Need to Know! Ever wondered about the charm and utility of suede fabric? Whether you're in fashion, interior design, or just curious about textiles, suede offers a unique blend of style and practicality. Let’s break down what makes suede a standout choice and address some common questions! What is Suede Fabric? Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of animal hides, usually cowhide, resulting in a soft, velvety texture. Unlike full-grain leather, suede has a napped finish that provides a distinct and luxurious feel. What Are the Benefits of Suede? 1. Elegant Appearance: Suede’s rich, velvety surface adds a touch of sophistication to any design or outfit. 2. Softness: Its plush texture is not only pleasing to the touch but also adds a level of comfort and warmth. 3. Versatility: Suede is perfect for a variety of applications, including fashion accessories, upholstery, and home décor. 4. Durability: When cared for properly, suede is surprisingly durable and can withstand regular use. Are There Any Downsides to Suede? 1. Maintenance: Suede requires regular care to maintain its appearance. It’s prone to staining and can be challenging to clean. 2.Water Sensitivity: Suede is not water-resistant, so exposure to moisture can damage the fabric and alter its texture. 3. Cost: High-quality suede can be quite expensive due to the extensive processing involved in making it. How Do You Care for Suede? To keep suede looking its best, it’s essential to use a suede brush to remove dirt and a special suede cleaner for tougher stains. Always protect your suede items with a water-repellent spray designed for the fabric. Why Choose Suede? If you’re looking to add a touch of luxury and sophistication to your projects or wardrobe, suede is a fantastic choice. Its unique texture and rich appearance can elevate any design, provided you’re prepared to invest in proper care. Pro Tip: Always test any cleaning products on a small, inconspicuous area before applying them to the entire surface. #SuedeFabric #TextileCare #FashionDesign #InteriorDesign #HomeDecor #LuxuryMaterials #SustainableFashion #LeatherGoods

👗 From Runway to Room: How Fashion Inspires Interior Design 🌿 Fashion and interior design are two sides of the same coin—both are about self-expression, creativity, and storytelling. As someone who styles both people and spaces, I've found that the principles of fashion can beautifully translate into the world of interiors. Here’s how fashion can guide your interior styling choices: 1. Color Palette: Just like in fashion, choosing the right color palette sets the tone for your interiors. Whether it's the bold hues of a runway collection or the subtle neutrals of a capsule wardrobe, these choices can be echoed in your home through wall colors, furniture, and accessories. 2. Textures & Fabrics: The feel of a luxurious silk dress or the warmth of a cozy knit sweater can inspire the textures you choose for your home. Think velvet cushions, linen curtains, or a plush wool rug—each adding layers of comfort and sophistication. 3. Patterns & Prints: Just as a statement print can make an outfit pop, incorporating patterns into your interiors—whether through wallpaper, upholstery, or rugs—can create visual interest and reflect your personal style. 4. Accessorizing: The way you accessorize an outfit with jewelry and shoes is similar to how you add the finishing touches to a room. Vases, artwork, and decorative pillows are like the accessories of your home, bringing everything together. Fashion is a powerful tool in creating spaces that are not only stylish but also deeply personal. Wool feel nylon carpets are a fantastic choice for anyone who loves the look of natural wool carpets but want to avoid the hassle. Here’s why they’re so popular! 🐑 Wool feel nylon carpets are more resistant to wear and tear. 🐑 They are stain-resistant, which means they’re easier to clean and maintain. 🐑 Typically more affordable than high-quality real wool carpets, they offer a budget-friendly aesthetic without the hefty price tag. 🐑 Nylon carpets are less likely to harbour dust mites and allergens compared to natural fibres like wool. 🐑 A wide range of colours, patterns, and textures available, offering great design flexibility to complement various interior styles. 🐑 They’re easy to care for—just regular vacuuming and occasional spot cleaning will do, whereas wool often requires more specialised care. Discover the Longevity Collection by Belgotex, featuring Serenity and Grandeur—two ranges that capture the beauty of wool while offering the benefits of nylon. 🛒 www.belgotex.co.za #belgotex #designerchoice #betterchoice #greatdesign #interiorstyles #woolcarpets

🌟 Why Custom Work Costs More: The Art of Intricacy and Uniqueness 🌟 When it comes to custom work, whether it’s upholstery, wedding dresses, custom cars, or bespoke homes, the investment reflects the unparalleled craftsmanship, attention to detail, and individuality that goes into each piece. Here’s why custom creations often come at a premium: One-of-a-Kind Design: Just like a wedding dress tailored to your exact measurements and style, custom upholstery is designed specifically for you. Each piece is unique, ensuring it perfectly fits your vision and space. Precision and Craftsmanship: Think about custom cars, where every detail is meticulously crafted to match the owner's specifications. This level of precision demands more time and expert skills, driving up the cost. Tailored Features: Custom homes are designed to meet the homeowner’s specific needs, from floor plans to finishes. Just like your favorite custom furniture, every element is carefully chosen, which requires additional labor and expertise. Quality Materials: Custom work often involves high-quality, specialized materials that contribute to durability and aesthetics. Whether it’s the finest fabrics for upholstery or premium components for a custom car, these materials come at a higher price. Time and Labor**: Custom projects take time—time to plan, design, and execute. Skilled artisans pour their heart and soul into each piece, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of quality. In the end, investing in custom work means investing in something truly special—items that reflect your personality, style, and values. Whether it’s a stunning piece of furniture or a beautifully tailored dress, custom creations tell your story. 💖 #CustomWork #Craftsmanship #OneOfAKind #InvestInQuality #BespokeDesign #Upholstery #CustomFurniture #WeddingDresses #CustomCars #UniqueHomes

Whilst trends and social media aren't something I pay a great deal of attention to when it comes to design inspiration, its important to remain aware of what's in fashion if you work in a practice allied to the interiors industry. When a Lady Griddlebone client requests a commission which embraces a look that's in vogue, I need to know exactly what they're referring to. One trend I've noticed being mentioned more and more in the media, is the move toward brown. It's being hailed as the overriding influence for Autumn 2024 and whilst brown might not have been considered the height of fashion for a while, its a colour I've embraced in all its shades, tints and tones since starting my practice several years ago. Many items I receive commissions for or create for the Lady Griddlebone collection have part or all of their (brown) wood surfaces left in their natural state and a shade of brown might be perfect for a painted surface or form part of a beautiful decoupage paper design. Brown is a gorgeous composite colour, a warm hue that's all around us, from chestnut to cocoa, taupe to chocolate. Without the benefit of brown, Lady Griddlebone's collection would look very different. If you'd like to have your furniture updated whether in a shade of brown or perhaps a rich navy or glorious russet red, please get in touch. We always involve our clients in the design process to bring their furniture vision to life in as stress-free and enjoyable manner as possible, from initial consultation through to delivery of the finished item. www.ladygriddlebone.com #brown #interiorstrends #designinspiration #woodfurniture #paintedfurniture
