Help us make transportation safer and easier for all Ontarians. 🚗 🚊 🚌 The Ministry of Transportation and the Policy Innovation Hub, a team in the Ontario Cabinet Office, is conducting a study on transportation experiences in Ontario. If you are someone who experiences challenges or discomfort with using transportation in Ontario, and you identify with any of the following characteristics, please apply to share your perspective: - Racialized identity - Indigenous identity - Senior age: 65+ - Disability - 2SLGBTQIA+ identity - Lower income - Located in northern, rural, or remote communities Take a 2-5 minute questionnaire (https://lnkd.in/enxGacHZ) to apply to participate in this study. A new survey wants to know if collaborative practices in housing are isolated cases or an approach that is widely tested out, via Housing Europe newsletter In a previously overlooked neighbourhood, residents took the initiative to improve their living conditions. The town council facilitated the participatory design process and renovated together with the young families living in precarious situations. Over time, the residents, architects, city planners, and construction workers collaborated to transform the old, neglected village and revitalise an ageing rural community. This housing project "Bogues du Blat" in Beaumont, France not only enhanced the residents’ quality of life but also resolved long-standing issues of inadequate housing and community disengagement. It facilitated access to affordable housing for young families living in precarious conditions. They went on to develop new activities in the village providing them economic means to settle down. This success story underscores the power of citizen participation in addressing community issues. Is this one of its kind or are there more? Please take a moment to respond to a survey as part of the SOLVE-H project, which focuses on investigating citizen participation in various forms of collaborative housing (e.g. co-housing, cooperative, community land trust, social & public housing etc.). As someone immersed in the power and limits of storytelling who is spending 2024 thinking about stories and language in the context of grey literature (reports, reviews, frameworks, etc.), I commend the measured radicalism and self-awareness of a new report called ‘Storytelling for Systems Change’. The report is full of observations that recognise the importance of telling and reading/hearing stories, especially the perspectives of people with lived experience. But it does not instil stories with magical powers: ‘good listening asks us to avoid simplifying stories in order to fit neatly into a public-facing document‘. The report asks important questions about what should constitute a robust evidence base, how to better stitch together different types of evidence, and how to bridge the divide between ideas and implementation. It’s also nicely written. I found myself nodding often but sometimes wanting to disagree or talk back – which the authors explicitly and generously expect from readers. The link to the report, ‘Storytelling for Systems Change’, is embedded in the article. #greyliterature #storytelling #livedexperience #recommendingthefuture

This #LocalGovWeek, let’s talk about how municipal governments strive to improve quality of life in their communities, and how they also go above and beyond basic services and infrastructure to take on bigger challenges. They’re creating real change from the local level up.
