On June 10, CVSA announced the results of its Brake Safety Day campaign. Out of 4,898 vehicles checked throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, inspectors placed 570 out of service. Violations included worn brake lines/hoses, broken brake drums, inoperative tractor protection system, inoperative low-air warning device, and air and hydraulic fluid leaks. Don't leave safety to chance. A quick and thorough #DOT #pretripinspection is your first line of defense, ensuring a smooth journey and compliance with regulations. In just 15 minutes, you can identify potential issues and avoid roadside delays. Here's your pre-trip checklist breakdown: 🧐 Lights & Reflectors: Circle the vehicle, checking all lights, turn signals, and hazard lights for proper function. Ensure reflectors are clean and undamaged. 🧐 Tires & Wheels: Inspect each tire for proper inflation, wear, and any cuts or bulges. Check lug nut tightness and wheel integrity. 🧐 Brakes: Test both air brakes and parking brakes for smooth operation and proper pressure. Look for leaks in the air lines. 🧐 Fluids & Leaks: Check engine oil, coolant, and other fluids for proper levels and any leaks under the vehicle. 🧐 Exterior & Interior: Look for loose parts, damage to mirrors, doors, and cargo securement. Ensure wipers, mirrors, and horn function correctly. 🧐 Paperwork: Have your driver's license, registration, vehicle inspection report, and bills of lading readily available. ALL About Trucking 👇 CDL Driver Recruiting, Insurance & Claims, DOT Compliance, Billing, Team Building, Employees Training
This year, the International Roadcheck will have two main focus areas. In 2024, the CSVA and its partners will be focused on inspecting the following: 1. Tractor protection systems 2. Alcohol and controlled substance protection ✔️ Tractor protector systems like the anti-bleed back valve, trailer supply valve and trailer protection valve are critically important safety systems. These systems must be evaluated, tested and maintained regularly. During the "vehicle" portion of this year's International Roadcheck, authorities will be paying particular attention to these systems to ensure they're in full working order. ✔️ Inspectors will observe the driver for signs of alcohol or controlled substance use or impairment. They will examine the cab and trailer for alcohol or controlled substance, and conduct a query in the DACH. Needless to say, all truck drivers will want to ensure their truck, trailer, documentation and cargo are fully compliant with safety regulations! #truckingindustry #truckingbusiness #safetyfirst
