901 BLOC Squad and Metropolitan Family Services each received $50,000 in AAA-ICDR Foundation Rapid Response funding for providing alternatives to law enforcement responses for public safety. Memphis, Tennessee-based 901 BLOC Squad uses conflict resolution to help at-risk youth and their families avoid retaliatory violence. Funding will support youth round tables, facilitate community dialogues, and hold conflict resolution workshops. Chicago-based Metropolitan Family Services works with local community organizations, outreach workers, and peacekeepers to mobilize conflict resolution support services that strengthen families and communities. Funding will support conducting mediations, establishing non-aggression agreements between rival groups, and supporting conflict response and prevention units that respond to crises and give de-escalation support to mitigate violence and victimization among city youth.
