Youth Technology Incubator (YTI) is just one of AACI’s youth programs and last year, they had 2,249 youths return as program participants! 🥰 AACI YTI is a FREE program for Santa Clara County residents ages 8-24 that uses arts and media to promote healthy lifestyles, positive skill development, social emotional learning, storytelling, confidence building and advocacy. We strive to strengthen self-confidence within our participants by providing them life skills around substance use prevention and mental health tools through free creative storytelling programming, so that they can make the right choices for themselves while building community with their peers. 🤩 To learn more about AACI’s Youth Technology Incubator program, please visit https://lnkd.in/guiAaKzF or @ytechincubator on Instagram. #aaci #youthtechnologyincubator #yti #impactmetrics

#ASHA2024 #ASHASeattle #ASHAElevate Mareile Koenig, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BCBA, Heather Forbes, Ph.D., BCBA-D, CCC-SLP, Joanne Gerenser, Ph.D. and Lilith Reuter-Yuill, PhD, BCBA-D, CCC-SLP will be presenting at the annual The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)'s convention this December in Seattle, WA. 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑶𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝒆𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 1-Hour Seminar (In-Person) About Leaders in the Neurodiversity (ND) community have raised awareness of social injustices experienced by autistic individuals. Advocacy efforts have produced a surge of clinical service providers eager to deliver ND-affirming care. However, descriptions of this care are sometimes idiosyncratic and conflicting. Additionally, some advocates recommend abandoning established intervention frameworks and practices (e.g., applied behavior analysis, social skills interventions). This presentation will (1) provide a history of the ND movement, (2) review literature on ND-affirming care, including strengths and challenges, and (3) propose a model for ND-affirming care that centers on interprofessional collaboration and evidence-based practice. Our goal is to open a thoughtful dialogue within the SLP community that will promote research, foster collaboration, and enhance evidence-based services for autistic individuals. Learning Outcome(s): ✳ Identify three barriers to ND-affirming collaborative practices ✳ List at least two strategies for reducing barriers to collaboration ✳ Describe at least three advantages of interprofessional collaboration to support autistic learners #Autism #Neurodiversity #NDAffirmingcare #IPE #IPP #Collaboration #SLP #BCBA #BCaBA #ABA #SLPABA #ASHA To register for the conference, visit https://lnkd.in/eRKTvWZ3

"It's all about adaptation, not damage! As humans, we're able to adapt to the changes and challenges we've faced over the recent years - as we need to match the world we're born into. "When children encounter small difficulties, obstacles or challenges, your response, support and encouragement helps them to manage, cope and overcome the problem. Childminders support children to learn, grow and adapt - you are a key workforce that does this everyday - and that's why human beings are so successful." We all thoroughly enjoyed a hugely insightful and powerful session from our first guest speaker at this morning's SCMA Conference - Dr James McTaggart, Early Years Educational Psychologist - who spoke about resilience and recovery, and how it relates to child development. James inspired us all to be reflective and proud about how childminders play a key role in supporting children, their wellbeing, learning, and development - and so much more by forming connections and responding to challenges and the world around us. #ShapingFutures #EmbracingChange #CheerforChildminding #SCMAConf2024

Today marks the start of #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek, which runs from 7th to 13th October. This year’s theme, “What’s Your Story?”, gives us a chance to connect and recognise the diverse experiences of those living with dyslexia. With over 6.7 million people in the UK affected, there are countless stories to be shared—each one unique and important. The key themes for Dyslexia Awareness Week 2024 are: 🔹 Every story is different: No two journeys with dyslexia are the same. Whether you’ve lived with dyslexia your whole life or are newly diagnosed, your experience is unique. Sharing these stories helps to break down misconceptions and shines a light on the many ways dyslexia can shape individuals—through challenges and strengths alike. 🔹 A strong start matters: Early identification and support are crucial. Not everyone has access to early intervention, but by raising awareness, we can change that. Together, we can ensure more people recognise the signs of dyslexia and get the help they need to thrive from the very start. 🔹 It’s never too late to change your story: Even if your past experience with dyslexia has been difficult, it’s never too late to seek support and begin a new chapter. The British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and other organisations are here to offer guidance and resources, helping individuals reframe their journey with dyslexia. This Dyslexia Awareness Week, let’s take a moment to listen, learn, and support one another. Whether you're sharing your own story or listening to someone else’s, we all have a role to play in creating a more inclusive, dyslexia-friendly workplace and society. What’s your story? Join the conversation, share your experience, and help us build a community where every dyslexic person feels heard, understood, and empowered. #DAW24 #DyslexiaAwareness #WhatsYourStory #InclusionMatters
