Consultant/Speaker/Expert/Trainer. Raising awareness and finding solutions for behavioral health and justice.
Understanding trauma and trauma-specific interventions is crucial, but it’s only part of the picture. The environment where trauma is treated plays a huge role in the outcomes for trauma survivors, service recipients, and the dedicated staff. If you're in behavioral health, you should be familiar with TIC, and R1 writes a great summary in their blog post, linked here. Important elements for employers are these often-overlooked points: Recognizing how trauma affects everyone involved. Responding effectively by integrating this knowledge into practice. In a Trauma-Informed environment, everyone—from the front desk to management—is trained to adhere to these principles, fostering a compassionate, person-centered approach to care. Our goal is to prevent re-traumatization, avoid stigma, empower staff and individuals, and provide inclusive care. Adopting this approach isn’t a one-time task. It requires ongoing awareness, sensitivity, and sometimes even a cultural shift within the organization. Regularly assessing and embedding these 6 Guiding Principles into daily practices helps create a supportive and healing environment for everyone. R1's card decks are a highly valuable resource for learning and growing. TBD Solutions can help your organization assess, analyze, and implement practices for health and recovery! #TraumaInformedCare #MentalHealth #BehavioralHealth #SubstanceUseDisorder #SAMHSA #CDC #Healthcare #PeerSupport #Recovery

Yesterday was miraculous in more ways than one! For starters, I found myself in a room of over 500 people who acknowledged and recognised the importance of trauma-informed practice and care in our local communities at all levels. A breath of fresh air for me, as someone living with Complex PTSD as a result of Adverse Childhood Experiences, who has struggled to find my place in a world I didn't feel I deserved to be part of, or who didn't understand. Secondly, I drove there in rush hour whilst feeling calm and regulated. This may not seem like a big deal, but it's a game-changer to be able to drive to new places without constant fear and hypervigilance, thanks to having the tools to work with nervous system dysregulation. More than that, as I returned home from a long day, I noticed... well, nothing. No muscle tension from being braced all day, no aching jaw from being scared to use my voice, no pounding heart or feeling of dread. Nothing... It's very strange. And very new. A glimpse of a way of being that I've been working hard to reach over these last two years in trauma recovery. It's going to take some getting used to. But I think I like it. #trgm #traumarecovery #traumainformed #cptsd #nervoussystemregulation #adversechildhoodexperiences #strongertogether #strongercommunities #greatermanchester
Amazing to hear all the inspiring work happening across Greater Manchester at the Adverse Childhood Experience and Trauma Responsive Movement event yesterday. Great to see so many people committed to working together to raise awareness, embed trauma-informed practice at systems level and within our workforce, and create resilient communities. #trgm #traumainformed #traumarecovery #resilientcommunities #adversechildhoodexperiences #traumainformedpractice #greatermanchester
