GE Vernova and Vineyard Wind have a massive job on their hands. Vineyard Wind has been ordered to remove all turbines supplied by GE Vernova subsidiary LM Wind's Gaspé factory in Quebec, which has been hit with accusations of having falsified quality data. There were 22 GE Haliade-X 13.7MW wind turbines installed at Vineyard Wind before the blade break incident last July, implying 66 blades. According to documents published by the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), six of those were manufactured at GE Vernova/LM Wind's Cherbourg factory in France. The remainder it seems all came from Gaspé. Under a "worst-case scenario," BOEM says that jack-up vessel the Sea Installer, which has been used so far, may have to make 22 vessel trips over around 7 months (a maximum of 3 trips per month) to remove all the blades necessary from "up to 22 wind turbines" - so, all of them - and transport them back to Canada. Curious to hear about what other incidents there have been in the offshore wind sector that have required the removal of this many turbine blades from a project - if any.

France awarded its first commercial-scale floating offshore wind auction to Elicio and BayWa r.e. Global. with the 250 MW Pennavel project, a significant step forward in scaling up floating wind technology. In Sweden, Deep Wind Offshore plans the Erik Segersäll floating offshore wind farm of 1.5 GW, and potentially supporting an area of 4.5 GW through several development phases to meet the needs of 2.5 million Stockholm residents. In addition to these achievements, Stiesdal has reported that the TetraSpar Demonstrator Project has achieved an impressive 63% capacity factor, highlighting the efficiency and potential of floating wind platforms. These projects showcase the immense potential of floating wind technology. Despite the progress, the industry still faces challenges such as high costs, complex installations, and regulatory hurdles. Innovative solutions and ongoing investments are crucial to overcoming these obstacles and fully realizing the potential of floating wind farms. 📢 Big #Hydrogen and #OffshoreWind news from the Netherlands: Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners awarded IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore wind farm. Zeevonk, a joint venture of Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Energy Transition Fund, has been awarded a permit to build wind farm IJmuiden Ver Beta in the Netherlands. This 2 GW offshore wind project will include a 50 MWp floating offshore solar farm on site and a new electrolyzer at Port of Rotterdam which will convert electricity of IJmuiden Ver to green hydrogen. As our CEO of the Netherlands, Martijn Hagens noted, "combining wind, solar and hydrogen, this project will create a state-of-the-art energy system and support further decarbonization of industries and our society." The IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta offshore wind farms, which will be built without subsidies, are expected to go into operation at the end of 2029 or the beginning of 2030. As the ONLY training and consultancy provider in Ireland that can deliver all the required Global Wind Organisation & Energy Institute standards alongside all of the Irish national requirements like SOLAS (An tSeirbhís Oideachais Leanúnaigh agus Scileanna) SAFEPASS & CSCS training and associated services both at our sites and our clients internationally for both On & Offshore Renewables, we were a little disappointed not to get a mention in this article but hey, it just shows theres still work to be done to get our name, brand and message of collaboration out there!!(despite paying out a fortune to all the various bodies) It seems the more shows like Global Offshore Wind as part of the Gael Offshore network, Wind Energy Ireland conferences, international standards committies etc etc shows and events we do to fly the Irish Wind Industry flags the more we need to do and more money we need to spend! Hoping at least a few people actually see this, theres plenty of private investment has gone in to this industry going back almost 25 years.
