Hope you all stay safe during the severe weather that Beryl is bringing. Proper gas detection during a hurricane is crucial for chemical plants to ensure the safety of personnel, the surrounding community, and the environment. Hurricanes can cause structural damage, leading to leaks or releases of hazardous gases. Early detection allows for prompt response measures to mitigate risks, such as evacuations, containment, and shutdown procedures. Without effective gas detection, the likelihood of undetected leaks increases, potentially resulting in severe health hazards, fires, explosions, and long-term environmental contamination.#hurricanesafety #gasdetection #accusense

President and CEO of the National Fire Protection Association committed to helping reduce loss with information, knowledge, and passion.
According to NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, the 2024 hurricane season, which started on June 1st, is expected to be above normal. This is a critical time to refer to the requirements of NFPA 70B to ensure preparedness in case a storm strikes, and electrical power is compromised. Annex K of 70B lists 11 event phases that should be addressed before returning an electrical system. This will ensure, not only a timely, but safe recovery post disaster. To learn more, check out this NFPA blog from NFPA Senior Electrical Content Specialist Corey Hannahs that details Annex K and key steps to be taken in a disaster recovery plan: https://lnkd.in/eqNmKGkD

🛡️ Strengthened flood defense at the Oder 🛡️ In the wake of the millennium's Oder floods, the Neuzeller Niederung faced critical levee stability issues. Our timely levee defense strategies were key in preventing catastrophic flooding. Fast forward to 2017-2020: a 3km stretch of the Oder levee in the Oder-Spree district, costing over €10 million, underwent significant reinforcement, transforming former farmland into a robust flood defense. At the heart of this project was our Bentofix® B 4000 BRAD16 geosynthetic clay liner, laid 1.5m deep on the waterside embankment, fulfilling Brandenburg's stringent 2016 guidelines. This innovative approach not only enhanced safety but also proved to be an economically savvy solution, utilizing about 42,000m2 of liner more efficiently than traditional methods. We want to emphasize the fusion of ecological and economic benefits in infrastructure, ensuring the Neuzeller Niederung's protection against future floods. 🌊 For more info on the project visit https://lnkd.in/egH6skVg #naue #geosynthetics #flooddefense #leveereinforcement #watersideseal #oder

As the intensity of hurricane seasons continues to rise, the aftermath often leaves power grids severely compromised. The damage these storms inflict can be extensive, causing prolonged outages and posing significant risks to both infrastructure and public safety. In the wake of such damage, thorough and efficient inspections of power lines are crucial to restoring power and ensuring reliability. That's where our innovative UV cameras come into play. Whether handheld or drone-mounted, using UV cameras in post-storm inspections offer a precise and effective solution for quickly identifying and addressing any issues, ensuring that power is restored safely and swiftly. By pinpointing the exact location of Corona partial discharge, this technology plays a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of the power grid. Taking the necessary steps to protect infrastructure and empower the health of electrical assets ensures a faster, more resilient recovery after the storm passes. #pd #powergrid #hurricane #utilityinspection #powergridmaintenance #powergridinspection #aerialinspection #innovation #partialdischarge

Temporary flood prevention or fire suppression water storage solutions are right in our strike zone. This short video is from March 2023 and marked the 3rd consecutive deployment of the same Triple Dams we originally supplied in 2021, and they're gearing up again for deployment in 2024. Just like paying more tax doesn't reduce the probabilities, hand-wringing and hoping won't reduce the consequences of floods and fires, regardless of how they occur. The probabilities of coming events are not ours to change, instead we confidently manufacture re-usable products that help reduce or eliminate the consequences, and we're grateful to be part of this practical, responsible, repeatable #adaptation plan. https://lnkd.in/gF697z3R

On the Eastern seaboard of the United States in Virginia, a Hevvy/Toyo DP submersible pump was used to dredge sand and sea water into 4,600 linear feet of geotubes with a circumference of 34 ft standing 6 ft high high for a coastal protection project. The area damaged by hurricane Ernesto posed a threat to the environment and the operations of this independent agency of the US government. Two makeshift pits were constructed; the sand was bought in from offsite and mixed with water from the sea and river estuary. The resulting slurry was then pumped by the DP pump into the tubes at an average rate of 1,200 GPM using a header system that branched out into multiple lines. From the makeshift pits, the slurry mix was pumped at a distance of up to 2,500 feet. Choose Hevvy/Toyo Pumps for tailored, high-quality pumping solutions – because with us, you'll always do it right.
