Based on our systematic review of the literature, the outcomes are largely similar although complications rates are slightly higher if a prior rotator cuff repair has been attempted. — Kinematic Alignment — 😱 It has become a fancy buzzword - but I wanted to highlight a couple ways surgeons use navigation to inform their KA approach. 1) Resection Depth Calipered resection depth requires surgeons to make “educated guesses” not only the original cartilage thickness, but also about the kerf, and deflection of the blade when cutting. Intellijoint users can use Cut Verification, to measure not only where they pin the guide, but what amount was ACTUALLY resected and at what angles. This accounts for both kerf and blade deflection. These final values inform the surgeon of what to aim for on the tibia side. 2) Dialing in posterior tibial slope Dr. Howell has talked about the risk of posterior subsidence / insert wear when tibial slope exceeds 5° from native.
