“We did a project in the UK with the police force. They did ten investigations over nine weeks. The volume of data they carved through… they said they estimated the time efficiency gain was 236 years...236 years for one police force. You have to factor in the cost of labor for humans doing these things and you can take that out of the system. So, those time efficiencies, if I think about it in the context of ports, the time you spend looking at paperwork or processing paperwork, answering phones, working on logistics, and freeing up that time, and extrapolate that across this audience, it really is a significant time efficiency gain.” - Kirk Arthur, Worldwide Government Solutions Lead at Microsoft, on the benefits of AI and other technology solutions to create more efficient systems #SmartPorts #AAPAEvents #AI

A child gets separated from their parents. But instead of combing through hours of video camera footage to try to find them, police use AI-enabled video analytics to search the footage based on a description of what the child is wearing. This eliminates areas from their search, saving time and helping to reunite that family quicker. This is one real-life example of how public safety agencies can use AI today to help keep people safe. Mahesh Saptharishi put it best at #FCMostInnovative’s panel: AI removes the haystack to help humans find the needle. You ever hear people say the machines dont want you to work, the intelligence literally cuts and pushes people away from things using augmented reality and perception. We apparently classify this as magic but yet we are trying to regulate the flow of data across the world. In other words, the systems and computer vision continously cause problems for people across the world while we try and regulate data privacy. AI has been around for decades but the trends drive decision making through sensory time. Its important to ensure not only that the intelligence of the systems working but the time loop were building..(Jan-Dec) is regulated too, its a loop of time. #AIregulations #Dataprivacy #Systems #Algorithms #Intelligence #Machines

I am deeply concerned by the recent blocking of the AI safety bill in California. This decision potentially paves the way for unchecked innovation by large tech companies in AI. We do not allow pharmaceutical companies to develop and release drugs without rigorous testing and regulatory oversight. The same principle should apply to the development of AI technologies, which have the potential to profoundly impact our society. Guardrails, transperency, and care for ethical considerations are totally missing from current AI development. Unchecked AI development could lead to unintended consequences that may be difficult or impossible to reverse once deployed at scale. It is crucial that we strike a balance between fostering innovation and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our society. Policymakers should reconsider their stance on AI safety regulations and come up with something.
California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a hotly contested artificial intelligence safety bill after the tech industry raised objections, saying it could drive AI companies from the state and hinder innovation. Read more: cnb.cx/3ZGl18v
