If it's harder for your internal employees to get a promotion than it is for an external candidate to get the role, you're doing it very wrong. So many companies work to make the candidate process slick, but then have challenging promotion processes. If you want to retain the best talent that already has organisational specific knowledge, then nurture your existing, trusted employees. A candidate made a fair point the other day. „If I don’t see a position description (PD), I might engage into a conversation but I am not signing the contract.“ „This shows that not enough structure and/or processes are in place. So I can imagine how other areas must look like.“ 🤔 I certainly agree with this. At last night’s Hacker in Heels Study Hour, one of our members prepped for one of their TWO interviews. She used the time to go through the list of questions one of them provided in advance. While she didn’t finish writing her answers, she did have a clearer idea of what they were asking for and how she will approach them. She felt better for having taken the time to start. And grateful that I was there to provide accountability. What could you accomplish if you had one hour a week dedicated to making progress on a goal? ⏰ An hour a week is about four hours a month, and about 50 hours in a year.
