Each day, an average 10,000 more Americans turn 65. And at some point, 70% of those 65-plus will require long-term care. In this country, more than 48 million family caregivers dedicate themselves to caring for aging parents and loved ones, enabling them to remain in their homes and communities. However, caregiving often comes at a steep personal cost. We know that 61% of family caregivers work either full- or part-time, but many have had to cut back on work or leave their jobs, sacrificing income, retirement savings, and financial security. That’s why AARP is urging Congress to put money back into the pockets of hardworking family caregivers by passing the Credit for Caring Act, which would provide a federal tax credit of up to $5,000 for specific caregiving-related expenses. Thank you to Mark Strassman and CBS News for speaking with me and for highlighting the need for greater support for America’s family caregivers. #FamilyCaregiving #Caregiving #CreditForCaring #Advocacy

Growing old and being well cared for is all something we want individually, but then don’t seem to prioritize as a society 🤷
Thank you for leading on this! I moved in with my parents for the last 5 months of my Dad's life to be his primary caregiver. I feel grateful to have been able to do it, and being there for my Dad was an honor, but it was a financial necessity not a choice. We have to do better.
Myechia, thank you, as a 24/7 care giver now for Ray for over three years it is for sure a task that requires much strength and emotional maturity. Ray is homebound and only out for medical appointments. He has had three cardiac arrests and needs support with many of his daily activities. We do have nursing and pt weekly for support in this area. Any help would be wonderful to all of us caretakers. We never thought we would be in this position, but you never know how life can take a sudden turn, sudden it was post covid with three cardiac arrests, stints and other issues. He now has a defib/pacemaker in and we are grateful for each day together. Thank you for all you can do in this area to help out families with their loved ones. We may see all of us dealing with caregiver support as we age in place. Ruth Kelley
I think gyms for the elderly are a business idea- and a kitchen for them - that's what the government should invest in. The diseases that cause the degree of what we call morbidity, and chronic illness stem from food, stress, and lack of muscle mass. It is important to provide care but more importantly to prevent the situation needing it!
Thank you for helping push for such a much needed change! What a difference this can make in the lives of so many, the caregivers and those they are helping care for.
A major issue — and growing crisis — that isn’t getting the attention it needs. Thanks to you and the AARP for your strong advocacy on it. 👊🏽😎
It's a topic most people don't want to think about or consider as a future for themselves or loved ones. But ignoring it doesn't make it go away. Commit to taking care of your health today, and plan for your care tomorrow. AARP has resources to help you get informed and prepared.

4dFrom my gerontology training, I clearly see the evolving patterns and the projections of these social/medical/political/economic dynamics are, with 100% certitude, a coming demographic reality, that, if not planned for and adequately resourced - will absolutely crush the majority of people and their families in the not too distant future!
