Postpartum Partners is a service-learning collaboration between Duke's Schools of Nursing and Medicine training future healthcare professionals in community-centered postpartum care, addressing health equity gaps and empowering marginalized families. With guidance from mentors like our own Assistant Professor, Dr. Stephanie Gedzyk-Nieman, students gain hands-on experience working with community partners such as MAAME, Inc. and Breastfeed Durham. Through doula training, health seminars, and community engagement, students learn to provide culturally sensitive care while tackling systemic inequities in postpartum health. The interdisciplinary approach fosters collaboration and community-building while preparing students to be agents of change.
